I'm running Ragnar Relay this weekend, but I don't even know a good way to set goals for that....
Run 1: 7.7 miles rated Very Hard. Let's arbitrarily say under 1:01
Run 2: 6.3 miles rated Very Hard. Let's arbitrarily say under 50 minutes
Run 3: 3.3 miles rated Easy. Let's arbitrarily say under 24:30
Undertrained... Hilly runs... No sleep... Crappy nutrition.... What could possibly go wrong?

Alive & Running
I'm also running Ragnar Relay this weekend on a 6-person team. As team captain I have a team goal of our group of guys winning the ultra division and breaking our course record of 2010 (Ben was on our team in 2010 so we have some big shoes to fill for sure). Our time in 2010 was 22:15, which was good for 8th overall (includes the 12-person teams) and won the ultra division by over 3 hours.
I'm the first runner for our team and have legs of 11.4, 13.9 and 11.4 miles. I feel that an overall pace of 6:30 for all miles would help our team get to where we want to be both, in terms of competing to win and competing to break the time we set in 2010.
After that I'm drinking an obscene amount of beers with Drink n Run and others in our group.
Fast is better than long
Don, is your team running 2 consecutive legs at a time? I don't recall that many long legs in most Ragnars.
Good luck Don and DnR, I really like those relays
2013 Goals: 2500 miles / 2:45 marathon? / sub 2 800m / 4:30 mile / sub 16 5K / sub hour 10 miles
Give a man a fire and he'll be warm the rest of the night;Set a man afire and he'll be warm the rest of his life.
What in the Jehu?

Yeah, the 6-person teams run two consecutive legs each time. So we run through one exchange point each time we run. It's always funny to see the look of confusion on the volunteers faces as we run through when they're expecting a hand off.
The distances are all over the board but I gave myself the heavier mileage because, well, my mileage base is through the roof. Speed isn't what it was last year, but I know I can cover the miles.
I'm doing the Timberman Half Ironman Sunday. I did a little sprint tri once so I figure this can't be much different. Right? If Pauly (after several adjustments) figured he was good for 5:20, so am I. Nevermind the fact that he runs a bit faster than me...
So, Let's put the run goal at 1:35 and overall goal at 5:20. That's stupid enough. I've really got no idea what I'm doing.
HobbyJogger & HobbyRacer
5K tonight, hoping to run it as second 5K tempo of a set so I think 20:00 goal will be sufficiently difficult.
It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

Your biking and swimming are crushing me, You'll be out of the water 10-15 minutes ahead of me and I think you'll target a 20mph bike.
Good luck, you look to be far better prepared than I was.

That's not true. I'll be happy with 45 minutes. 40 minutes will be too hard. I do own a wetsuit tho. I've even used it three times.
Yeah, I am hoping for 20 or better on the bike but don't want to get carried away. Bad things could happen.
That was pretty tiring, racing a 5K about 15minutes after doing a 5K tempo. Little bit of post-race nausea has faded.
I'm glad I'm only stupid enough to do that, not stupid enough to race after a swimming AND a biking race immediately before with no rest.
Training through a race this week:
Portland Parks and Recreation Riverfest 10K (Portland, MI)
It's a SMALL race, more of a $30 time trial (or tempo run). Last year the winner was 41 high.
My goal <41

Masters Group and Marathon Maniac #747
Good luck with the swimming/biking/racing guys. I hear it is important to get water and calories during the bike part, so I hope you remember to put some hamburgers and beer into your transition piles
I've heard that too. I was thinking about stopping at a cafe for a latte and biscotti somewhere along the route. Isn't that what cyclists do on long rides?
