So no one wants to be the racing thread Czar? Okay, I'll get more and more wild and capricious then!

I'm not racing. I heard that can make your HR go up, and that is scary.
It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.
I'm not racing.
Holy crap. Maybe today is some bizarre, wacky, off day.

Unless you can't get it to go up past 130, that is even scarier!
I won't believe it until March 5th.
There was a point in my life when I ran. Now, I just run.

Name Distance Race Goal Result Comments bhearn 13.1 miles Run for the Honeywagon Half <1:26:03 (PR) I really wanted to be thinking more like 1:25 here, but my recent LT workouts just don't support that. Just PRing will be a challenge.
You just gotta go for it (<1:25). I didn't have any workouts that supported my last half PR, but I wound up surprising myself and PRing by over a minute. It was hard as hell, even from the first mile, but it doesn't matter how much you suffered once you cross the finish line and your goal is achieved.
2013 Goals: Run trails.
I hear you. But I am feeling mentally very weak lately. So many speed workouts, I just don't seem to be able to dig deep; I am ready to just say screw it to training, and go out and have fun and just run a lot of ultras. Honestly, my stomach has been turning for weeks thinking about this race. I am ready to quit before I've even started.
If I can screw up the courage, I will try to go out at 6:30 pace. We will see. But I am telling myself I will be happy with a PR (< 6:35 pace).
Why not do both? (Run ultras and do fast races) You can pretty much hit most of the workouts you do for marathon training. You'll need to back off a little occasionally because 30+ mile runs can sometimes wipe you out, but just because you run ultra's doesn't mean you shouldn't/can't run fast.
Besides, it only a half marathon. So what if you blow up and miss your goal, is it really a big deal? With a decent mileage base you could race another half 1-2 weeks later. I say go for it, accept nothing less than a 1:24:59, if the course is long, I guess you'll need to run faster
I am doing both, have been for a while -- my big race this year is Western States 100. But for now the focus is Boston. (I'm tempted to use Chuckanut 50K as a training run.) It's just that the long stuff is soooo much more comfortable, it makes the speedwork seem even tougher.
I am thinking of a marathon a week later, first half easy, 2nd half at goal MP. Tough workout, but way easier than racing a half all out.
You are really trying to get me psyched up for this... thanks.
Just to keep the theme for this week going, Im racing a half on Saturday. Just another stroll in the park.

Really, there is nothing in my training that suggests I should be able to hit this mark. But that hasnt stopped me in the past. I plan on leaving the brain at home.

Sunday March 4th - Chilly Half Marathon, Toronto - 1:30:00
First race in since Nov 4, looking forward to it!
(1:31:30 is current PR)
Chamberlain Half Marathon
March 4th
Goal:
under 1:25 closer to 1:20 or so.
No solid goal except to run under marathon pace..no taper leading into this one except two relatively easy days followed by another hard week next week and another half marathon.
