Another awesome effort out there Nads!  Nice racing.

            I'm in for the week...

            St. Paddy's Day 5k

            Goal: <16:25

Haven't raced a 5k in nearly a year.  It'll either go very well or very bad, nothing in between.  I also hope to be no more than 2 minutes behind the winner.  Last year, there were 4 runners <14:45.  Some of those speedsters will be there.

            16:38, 8 OA/1AG

And I was less than 2 min behind the winner.  1 - 14:56 and 2 was 15:10.  Each of those two ran 14:30's last year.  It was about 33° at the start with 12-14 mph winds out of the North.  Tougher racing conditions this morning but I was happy to get out there.  Splits were 5:21, 5:25, 5:27, 0.25.  About 1200m of the first mile was into the wind.  Had hoped to open up and increase speed in the 2nd mile but couldn't find that turnover.  Was pretty much solo from about 400m in to the end.  7th was about 10sec ahead and I just couldn't close that gap.  In the end, it was a good rust buster.

Wow, Mike. Way to hang with the wild beasts. Bra-VO.

                ...

I love 5Ks that involve climbing a friggin' mountain. ...

I won the most bizarre gift basket. Contents include a mini-stapler, a pack of golf tees, pasta salad mix and a book that appears to be Deborah Norville's biography. Must be clearance week at the UGA bookstore.

Much better than mine. I think the best part of mine is the bag - one of those with strings you can put over your back to carry it around.

Yours sounds like a lot of really useful tools for spiking or injuring your competition on your next race.

It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

Wow, nice work. All of your PR's are in serious jeapardy this year.

Can't find previous results so will say goal = 1st masters.

Success - passed a group of adults around halfway, and started feeling tired then, so was hoping that was it, and it was. Got some type of frozen pink pie which melted before getting home, and I haven't tried it yet (it is getting re-chilled).

Trade ya for a bag of Georgia Bulldog themed pasta salad mix!

Nice race again, Nader!  Damn dude.

                          20:08

I'm struggling in races of late.  I thought training had been going pretty well.  It's hard to explain two awful races in a row though.

Well, I failed miserably in my sub 7-hour goal for the 50K (finished in 7:41).  But given I was suffering from a lung infection just a couple of days ago, I'll take it!  (Fortunately my doctor "gets" me and prescribed steroids, antibiotics and an inhaler).  We also got an unexpected downpour, which not only turned the course into a muddy, mucky mess, it got extremely cold at the top of the ridge (thought I'd go hypothermic).

edited to add: hit my secondary goal of beating last year's time, but only by 5 minutes!

                            Upcoming races: 5/18 Watershed Preserve 12-hour, 6/2 North Olympic Discovery Marathon, 6/15 Bighorn 50, 7/27 White River 50, 8/24 Cascade Crest <gulp>

                            My woefully neglected blog.

                              Anyway ...

hilly course, but seeking race redemption

If I'd known how bad the hills were and how hot is was gonna be, I'd have adjusted this goal upward.  I ran 33:20, which included a 63-second pitstop (yeah, I hit Lap on the watch and timed it).  Not Nads-tastic, but I'll take it.
