Soriano open to batting leadoff again; Lou says no way If they don't do the job like I didn't do the job last year, maybe they put me back batting leadoff, if I feel good. My worst nightmare. This entire city would go batshit crazy if he was ever put in the leadoff spot again. Ever. Except the bleacher section. They wouldn't notice.

I find it cute, the way the Cubbies like to shuffle around their little playing cards in all different orientations.
If we don’t try we’ll never know. At least I can find out how good I can be. I can have an answer at the end of the days, and have a hell of a good time with the process. -Desi Davila
For real.
Ok for base sake, I don't know if he juiced or not as I don't know him and have never been around him. I work in a world of conjecture based on the fact that I don't play baseball for a living. That being said, recent events in the sport sure have tainted my perspective plus it was a nice little tweak/troll play.
What I see is a guy who's output is average at best in Min looking at his last year prior to coming to Boston. He hit 20 and sluggin % was 500. The year he gets to Boston things start to pick up and accelerate from there. Now he's a lefty which means he has the longer draw in fenway vs. hitting in the homer dome where balls go out just slightly more often than in Yankee Shack. This is with known juicer Manny in the locker room. Last two two years production was down. 1 year for the injury and '09 after being popped on the "List".
Lets put it this way, circumstantial evidence looks pretty bleak. I hope he didn't but why did his production improve at those levels and that fast when it wasn't indicative of previous years? Why do you think he didn't based on the facts and figures?
This player played 7 full seasons (unlike Ortiz) hitting more than 19 homers only one year. Then he had 4 years bin a row hitting 26 or more, topping out at 40. Was he a steroid user?
I get tired of all of this, but if we're going to cast stones...
mr train you are a pain, your words - they make me go insane
they strike my ever-thinking brain like little drops of acid rain
oh, to my life you are a bane; crazy, mixed up, mr train - r2e
Gee let me guess without googling the stats (no Cubs fan would need to) you would be referring to Ryan Sandberg. You are mixing apples and oranges. BTW - did Sanberg get popped for PEs or did I miss something.
I'm sorry that the implication of juice is on Ortiz. I really wish it were not. As a baseball fan I really like what he brings in terms of enthusiasm, fun and play. But it doesn't look good for him in an era where lots of guys took short-cuts. I know you have to defend your heros and guys on your team but you can't honestly come here and say you don't have some doubt or question. If that's the case, conversation is over as you are in fantasyland. Hey Cubs fans have to deal with Sosa and his juice and corks and what not. You're group isn't lilly white and you need to deal with it.
Hopefully baseball is past this crap but I bet something will replace PEs for the next generation as PEs replaced Speed and amphetamines from the 70s and 80s.
By the way, I took silver in sword fighting, gold in speed skating and was inexplicably medal-less in bowling after running into a buzzsaw receptionist in the semis.
This was your Wii Office Olympics update.

Wow, Office Olympics ran for two whole weeks? And in the middle of tax season too?

I wouldn't be surprised if he juiced at all. Shit it seems like everyone is or was. But his career stats aren't evidence of anything.
He got better because he suddenly started playing every day. And he suddenly played 82 games in Fenway. And he had Manny Ramirez hitting behind him. And the Sox actually wanted him to hit for power. And a bunch of other stuff. He got better because young players tend to get better the more they play. And then he sucked the last 2 years he was coming off wrist and 2 knee surgeries.
I don't agree. The stats are where you start and his indicate improvement beyond past years. Him getting called out on the list was the icing on that shit pie. If this was a 5k guy who ran 15s to 13 in the span of a year with only minimal change in time on the road, you would look at this with a suspicious eye.
Hitting in front of Manny certainly helps and I don't have the time nor inclination to go look up other stats as its late and frankly neither of us will change the other's mind. His dramatic change in output coupled with the other items are what point in a certain direction. Like I said, I realy hope he didn't but in this day and age in baseball - guilty until proven innocent. I'll give you the injury thing. Lets see how he does this year if healthy.
But, hey, when the Mets take it in the shorts from the Philly's in September October, I might not give a flying flock what we talk about here as I will be once again crying in my beer wondering why Minaya and Wilpon are still in baseball.

Riot: Act VIII - Reboot
My enjoyment of this thread will be in direct, inverse proportion to how much we talk about salaries and juice. But, hey, when the Mets take it to October, I might not give a flying flock what we talk about here.
You think the whole team will show up for a charity golf outing?
AL East - New York Yankees
AL Central - Chicago White Sox
AL West - Texas Rangers
AL Wild Card - Boston Red Sox
NL East - Atlanta Braves
NL Central - Chicago Cubs
NL West - Los Angeles Dodgers
NL Wild Card - Philadelphia Phillies
World Series: New York Yankees over Atlanta Braves
Opening Day should be a National Holiday and we should get rid of Columbus Day because (1) he didn't really discover anything and (2) he was not a very nice person. We all know baseball is America's most popular sport based on attendance (how else can you judge something?) so it makes perfect sense to me.
PLAY BALL!!
On another topic, Wayne Rooney out two-to-four weeks with an ankle sprain. I sure hope this doesn't impact his performance in June but England are sure stockpiling the excuses.
Interesting predictions. I do think that the Yankees will come undone and that the Sox will take the AL East.
Until Reyes' health is established, the Mets will be shaky (cause everyone was wondering about the Mets).
