      Rockenmamaof5- March 24th Augusta NJ  NJ ultra fest  50 mile race Goal <9:30 hours

      Your toughness is made up of equal parts persistence and experience. You don't so much outrun your opponents as outlast and outsmart them, and the toughest opponent of all is the one inside your head." - Joe Henderson

        How have things been going ... << 9:30 - Fair enough.  Just remember to smile a lot - 50M are fun.  You just get in the mile eating gait - Smile and enjoy the goodness.  Interupted by the occassional food - salt - hydration distrations.

        From an effort level and race strategery I love the marathon - Form a pure goodness of a race distance and joy of running it - Nothing beats a 50M.

          Rocken, I wish it could drive down and cheer/crew for ya, but I have family coming up on Saturday afternoon.  I hope you have a great run.

               Things have actually been going pretty well *knock on wood* I think this is the best prepared I've ever been for an ultra and that includes my 100 in 2009. I thought about putting sub 9 however I'm not so sure about how the weather is going to be. Right now it looks good, however if it gets hotter it really could change things for me. I REALLY really don't do well with the heat when it comes to hydration.  And I agree about your stance on the 50 miler.

                      There is plenty of room in the < 9:30 goal to work with.

                      May you get what your training deserves!  Meaning race well.

                      @BeachesRunner

                        Racing>? no, but it is a race I am running in....so...

                        Daddyo - 30k - Around the Bay 30k - goal=2:20 - Don't overdo it. 3 weeks from Boston!

                        It's a very hilly final 10k. I am sure I failed to recover last year, so this year i will play it smart.

                        Maybe

                          Umm. dunno. Running 18 the day before, haven't been in this mileage territory before and haven't run a 5K in almost 2 years since November 2010. So I'll go with <21(a PR). But I really have no idea how this will go. But fun is guaranteed.

                              They're calling for rain Thursday and Friday this week, so the race could hold up to its name.

                              good luck Dads, Nads, Rocken and others!
