I ran a workout (Read 128 times)

    We need a workout thread.

The main session was 4 x 1200m, first 400 at 5k pace (77), second 400 5 seconds faster (72), third 400 back at 5k pace (77). We did 1000m at 5k pace beforehand just to get a feel for the pace and also to get the total volume of work up just a hair.

It was a fun workout, covering the surge in the middle felt just like going with the pack in a race when it gets tough, then settling back into 5k rhythm for the last 400 made the pace feel easier.

Felt a bit fitter for the first time in a while.

Had a confidence building workout recently.  A mile TT, followed by a 6 X 200 which was intended to be about 5K pace.  Got carried away a bit, ended up doing the last 3 at 39-40 seconds (2 min rest).  Felt good to run pretty much all out, did not strain too much, nor any unusual soreness next day.  Never thought I could hit those paces.

Felt like a child running all out.  Not sure of the training benefit, but was fun for sure

        Solid.

Jeff, what was the recovery? Standing rest?

I did a little baby workout last night. The snow is pretty much gone so I jogged over to the high school and did a whole set of strides and drills on the football field. It had been way too long since I did a full set like that. Normally I like to be really well warmed up and relaxed, and even do some stretching before these but it was really cold and windy so that wasn't an option--I just jogged onto the field and started right in before I could get cold. But hey, it was better than nothing. As always, I felt SO much better afterward. The jog home my legs felt great--I felt like a kid. Even though I was freezing my ass off and the wind was cutting right into me on the jog home, I had the feeling like, hey, we made it through winter (pretty much.)

        Runners run.

We used to do something similar, but we would vary the placement of the faster 400.

Change of pace workouts are so much fun.  They were always my favorite.

There was a point in my life when I ran. Now, I just run.

Back beat, the word was on the street
That the fire in your heart is out
I'm sure you've heard it all before
But you never really had a doubt

Jeff, what was the recovery? Standing rest?

We jogged a 400 after the initial 1000m (and stripped off extra layers), then we jogged a 400 after each 1200 but waited until 2:30 had passed by to get going (which was just about 15-20s or so...

Abe: the last 1200, we ran the "surge" in the last 400 to simulate the end of the race.

Mile repeats on Wednesday at the track...first time it has been clear since November/December?

              1.5mi w/u

              5 X 1 Mile at 6:00, 5:50, :40, :30, :20, with 3 minute rest in between each.

              2.25 c/d

All my "speedwork" this year had been longer tempo runs, so this was an exciting, albeit painful, change. Ran this with a local guy that I used to beat up on at the track...and now he beats up on me.

My easy run yesterday was nice an slow...

Running is so damn mental. This week I ran 5K at half marathon pace (which I'd call a short tempo) as a little workout primarily to calibrate my brain for this weekend's half marathon. I don't expect to see any physical benefit from it this weekend but am hoping for some sort of mystical benefit. Jeff, I'm sure you have a blog post on this somewhere.

The fast guys slowed down for me last night and let me run with them, wahoooo

Yeah, looks like I haven't posted in a month.... need to whip something up on mysticism and tempos!

The "mysticism" just happened to involve a tempo on that day. Another day it could have been a MP paced run or something else.

                        Was it all a dream?

Had  a workout on Tuesday of 2mi in 10:24, 1mi in 5:00, 2mi in 10:24, 1mi in 5:00 w/ 0.5mi jog inbetween each.  I don't think I've ever done one like that.  The second 2mi felt pretty good after the faster mile interval.  The second mile repeat was pretty terrible though.

I'm in the business of misery...

I saw that one. You could also mention that this is in the context of 100 mile weeks ad nauseam and also the week after a sick race, but then you would just be making us feel bad.

Heh. Thanks.  The beatings will continue until the morale PRs improve, right?
