Hi everyone,
Gorgeous morning here. No running for me... still
Had my follow up appt. yesterday: I have 25% vision in my R-eye at the moment. They expect it to improve to 100%, but it may take up to a year. They won't adjust my glasses / contact lenses for another two months.
No running for another two weeks Am allowed to start again 1st week of June with a few easy kilometers and only every other day. Then build from there. I'm gonna scratch my September/October races so I won't feel pressured into running high mileage weeks and only do the 10 mile Dam-to-Dam cause I already signed up for it (company team). And 10 miles shouldn't be a problem. After that I'll start building a base for my Spring marathon
I am allowed to do strength training and yoga though. So I'll start with that.
DutchieRun the day, or the day runs you.

Crabby: I envy you your running
My butt is spreading as wide as the bars in my graph now I'm allowed strength training and anything else that is no-impact. So for the next two weeks I'm reverting to dvd-workouts only (and bike commutes).
Yesterday I did Muscle Endurance incl. abs (Cathe F., 60 minutes) and bike to/from work.
This morning I did MMA Boxing (Cathe F., 30 minutes) and Killer Abs standing section (Michael O., 15 minutes).
Feels good to be able to report workouts even if it's not a run.
Taking it easy this week. 3 yesterday and 6 this morning. It looks like my home computer is fried - gotta take it to the local Mac specialists.
Dutchie: Good to hear from you. Two weeks until running will go by in no time - I'd like to start weight training a bit like you do (after the race this weekend) I need a bathing suit body shape up by July.
Happy: I tried remaining perpendicular with the road going downhill this morning- scary! But I guess it must be more effiicient.
Happy Wednesday.

Recalculating...
Just a dude.
Ran the same 5x1000 that I did 2 weeks ago... I blew up and died the first time around... Last night I ran it very strong with less rest between reps. Very encouraging...
11 days to my first race in 19 years... Getting kinda excited about it...
Unfortunately, my brother isn't gonna be able to run it. He went for a 4 mile jog last night... Maybe most of a mile in he felt a big pop in his left calf muscle... He can't put any weight on it and is probably done for 2-4 weeks... Such a bummer... cuz he was doing well and is down roughly 30 pounds...
Glad to hear you get to at least do something again Dutchie...
I'd love to have that kind of variety in my runs Crabby...
Good Luck with yer computer Ayola...

Getting back in shape... Just need it to be a skinnier shape...
Imminent Catastrophe
I was going to do a 6 mi trail run today but have some pain in my right foot the last couple of days so I'm taking it very easy until Saturday's race
Hang in there Dutchie, you'll be up and running in no time.

Dutchie: on the bright side: you get to do some kind of exercise now. The 2 weeks will fly by. Meanwhile we are all running for you.
Ayola: So last night I tried out my new downhill running technique on a short steep hill that previously I would hurtle down, barely in control, trying to put the brakes on - my usual method. So the new method: slide visor down low on forehead to block all view of oncoming road except the couple feet in front of me so I can't see the actual grade, and maintain the speed I was running on the flat. It worked! I was ecstatic. I ran 7242 meters with my runner gal pal Kristin and had a fantastic run until I ran back up that hill on the way back and my right AT tightened up. Oh well, can't have it all - yet The night before I did a recovery walk/run - think I'll be doing that again tonight.
Don't make excuses for why you can't get it done.
Focus on all the reasons why you must make it happen.

Just imagine how great you could do if you were blindfolded!
Yeah, that would hilarious since I have no sense of balance! Close my eyes and I tip over!
(I keep meaning to do the exercises to work on that too; but never get around to it)
I need to use this new trick to come up with one to help me cross a log when hiking! That would be a feat! Maybe a visor with side-blinders would work.
Ayola: I meant to add I don't actually know if I'm really perpendicular to the hill; but I know I'm definitely not leaning backward and that it feels very comfortable. I'll get Kristin to watch me sometime and report back.
Kellly: Sorry to hear about your brother. Hope his injury is something that will heal on it's own and not require surgery.
I'm getting nervous about Saturday's race, my first 42,200 m race since December (and that was miserable) and first trail marathon in a couple of years. I've done a lot of training on trails but...that last 8 miles is a killer.
Aside: Speaking of meters, I used to have a "42.2" sticker from a marathon in Israel, the equivalent of the "26.2" stickers we have here. I'd like to get another one of those.
I've been experimenting with running faster every day... I'm thinking I've been improving more than I give myself credit for... I've had days where I am running a minute a mile faster than before with no additional effort... Except convincing my mind that everything is ok...
Thanks Happy... My brother said he felt much better today, but still can't put his full weight on his calf. Surgery won't be required, but some rest will definitely be needed...
Perfessor, sounds like the days off are a great idea... Good luck and get right quick...!

... running on the Vegas strip, even at 5:30 AM is terrible. Off the strip running was not spectacular but at least I didn't have to hurdle drunks and broken glass on the sidewalks. I ran 3 times this week out there, all of them were hard on my legs and knees (concrete sidewalks) but at least I kept up the routine.
I'll bet there were guys trying to hand you those cards with hookers too.
