Imminent Catastrophe

I'm no good at reading graphs. Does that mean it was hilly or just one big hill ? And no, I'm not blond.

That's one very long, slow 1100-ft climb to the halfway point then a long, 1800-ft descent to the finish. There were a few little ups-and-downs here and there (which you can see on the graph, like the climb at mile 19) but for the most part it's one big climb, then one big descent. That long climb wasn't too steep but it was just neverending and combined with the elevation, really had me tired by the halfway point. But it was beautiful!

"The most common question from potential entrants is 'I do not know if I can do this' to which I usually answer, 'that's the whole point'.--Paul Charteris, Tarawera Ultramarathon RD.
