Yes! I have a new race in July. My very first ever Marathon! I will be a marathoner!
The Light at the End of the Tunnel Marathon - Snoqualmie Pass to North Bend, WA. Sunday July 14, 2013
Goals for this race are to have fun with it, not work so hard that it hurts, and finish under 3:30. Wait, it's a downhill marathon, make that finish under 3:20. If I have a perfect day and decide to push the limits, my A-goal is to finish under 3:10, but that's the pie-in-the-sky dream goal. I know it's not realistic for a first marathon, especially for someone who's already had an AARP card for 8 years, but there has to be goals.

Acceptable at a dance, invaluable in a shipwreck.
Sounds rough. Does this count for BQs, PRs, 50 states, etc...?
It will probably give me PRs since I think the distances are funky. Mostly it is a celebration of my 25th wedding anniversary.
Also add

DW and I spent our honeymoon in Dahlonega. We had fun there too, although no running was involved.
Rule number one of a gunfight, bring a gun. Rule number two of a gunfight, bring friends with guns.
Haha!
Yeah, I think that our "fun" will be more in the pain / agony category.
He has trained even less for this one than Monkey and I'm not much better at the moment.
7/4 - 7/7 - Firecracker Quadzilla - Portland, OR - goal: win (least combined time)
However -- there's a guy who's gunning to run four sub-3s. So my only shot seems to be if he blows up and bows out on the last day. I also have some competition from another master's runner, more experienced than I am at multiday races, but normally I am faster than him.
The goal more under my control is to run four BQs (< 3:25).

It just occurred to me that there is a pattern with greater than 2 day races, where people usually fade on the 3rd day. I know it's not the same distance wise as a 4 or 6 day event but maybe worth considering going out slightly faster day 1 and 2, then just hanging on day 3,4. Nothing crazy, but something like 3:15, 3:20, 3:30, 3:35. Still nets out the same. Or you could go out the opposite and start the first day 3:35 and progress down. Or just run consistent. Yeah, that probably didn't help...
Yeah, I'm just going to try to run even, which at least after the first day should leave a lot in the tank for the second day. After that it's new territory for me. I'd like to feel good on the last day and kick it in faster, but we'll see.
After I ran the SF Marathon in 3:15 on Sunday, my legs felt fine the next day... except the hamstring was very unhappy with the sub-7 miles I threw in towards the end. None of that this time.
Santa Cruz Firecracker 10k.... July 4th.. Goal is to finish.
I think this is actually going to happen.
And we run because we like itThrough the broad bright land
