Heh. "New" bike, new fun (Read 44 times)

Finished converting my dad's old Trek Multitrak Hybrid into a 14 speed sort of cyclocross bike, with bar-end shifters, road handlebars and brake levers, road gearing, but cantilever brakes and widish (700x35) knobby tires. It's truly a multipurpose machine now, so now there are all kinds of opportunities for personal pain and happiness. Yesterday was it's inaugural ride, on roads with my JDRF team. Today was a proper 'cross ride - I believe I hit every possible surface, except deep mud (or snow, hallelujah, it's all gone except for the piles). Asphalt, gravel, dirt, sand, grass; roads, shoulders, paths, and, well, nothings. What a hoot - you can hold speed on the road, and get through almost anything off the road.

Too bad the motor is so flabby...

Same problem here , flab that is. Tongue Rode today with a friend who put together a combo electric/pedal bike. He is using it to commute to work. Awesome draft Cool He is pedaling as well as using the electric assist. Coming back, he set 23 mph on his cruise control and I could set 6 inches off his wheel and not worry about his pace changing. Shocked Crazy but fun. Cool
