......March, that is, in case you thought I was making some sort of biblical reference.
I want some spring weather.
I hate to keep whining, but this has been the longest winter that I can remember in quite some time.
T Bone continues to lead the pack. Keep up the good work. You are not far off the pace for a 10,000 mile year.
BTW, please do not take offense, but are you naturally this blabby? I have never run into a lawyer that is this reticent. I am sure you have some wit or wisdom to contribute to this forum.
Besides it gives us a chance to get to know a little bit about you.
Econo, how is your running going? Hang in there girl.
Did, you been cheating with Ruby lately?
Croydon, you and I added together aren't keeping up with T Bone. We are going to have to get a move on.

Dayum, T-bone! 2100 miles in three months? Yoink!
Not yet another Ruby tryst here; I've been out on the 29er with the cross tires, exploring dirt/mud roads. Fun fun fun. Gotta take a few days off, though; I got the back of my right heel smacked by a loaded cart at work, and it's pretty sore. I'll try riding on it tomorrow, maybe. My other distraction is a new PC, with a 24" LCD display. Hubba hubba.

heh, hi guys. My plans to kick up the biking have been thwarted at every turn. But right now I have to concentrate on the marathon (May 4).
I have 2 little sprint triathlons in the meantime, so -- just like last year, my rookie year -- I am going to be doing triathlons with virtually zero bike training. As in, "I don't train on the bike; I just race."
My second excuse is that I just got back from a family vacation in Hawaii! Very out of character, and we practically had to take out a 2nd mortgage to pay for it. No biking, but a lot of hiking, running, and swimming. And eating.
Plotting revenge marathon. Maybe Napa.

A few - I find more every time I go out. Ya just don't see them when on a roadie bike.
I do a bit of programming, but only in the CAD world, with Pro/ENGINEER. This monitor's a home thing, though. They won't spring for the good stuff at work, despite the fact that they'll give me a computer with a $2000 video card.

Got some bad news. I'm scheduled for hernia surgery on the 15th. That will keep me out off the bike for about 2-3 weeks and a slow recovery after that, so it looks like you better get your ride'n shoes on.

OUCH, that is bad news. I did 89 today
with some of the Handlebars pedal pounders. I'll do my best
I pray that you have a swift recovery.

maybe I'll come back to give T Bone a run for the money.
Croydon, sorry to hear about the hernia surgery.
good news -- I did my first triathlon of the season this morning and did well, despite the lack of bike training! 3rd in my age group out of 12 or so. A big leap up from last year (rookie year).
I think I rocked the bike portion, but will have to wait for official results. It was only 12 miles, but 12 verrry cold miles. I should have worn gloves....my fingers were ice cubes from gripping the metal aerobars and I couldn't get my shoes & helmet off during the 2nd transition. I held off some guys who were behind me the whole way (2 turnarounds so I could see my enemies), and nobody passed me until just before the end of the bike portion. Then again, I flattened that guy during the run portion...

WAY TO GO, GIRL
BTW, I assume you use riding gloves for your ride portion. Try a set of wool mittens over your gloves when it is cold. They have good flexibility for shifting and braking, they breathe and are warm. Plus they are easy on, easy off.
Did you log your ride miles yet?

No, I had both gloves and mittens and...left them in the transition bag, thinking "bah! I never get cold during races."
I learned my lesson
Yep, I logged my miles already. I broke 100 for the year!

should I do a duathlon tomorrow? It would be fun...
ETA: I did it! My first du. I got 4th/13 in my AG, which is much better than I anticipated (viewing last year's stats). The bike portion was 15 miles, and I did this in 17.75mph (ahem; it's good for me). It was hot; like 70 degrees (OK, "warm"), and some parts of the bike were on rough ground. They had graded it prior to paving, so it was a mess in those portions of the race. And it was WINDY! I had to shift way up & down, depending on the direction, even thought the course was flat. I took it easy on the two 5K's...glad I hammered the bike portion, however.
Why do bicyclists slow down after passing me? Grrr. Or maybe it's my imagination. Maybe my speed is inconsistent (I forgot to turn on the bike computer). I played back & forth with 6 or 7 people, it seemed.

Econo, congrats on your du placing
Two things happen when someone passes you: 1. the passer after having pushed so hard to pass unintentionally lets up slightly or 2. when someone starts to pass you stomp into the pedals slightly harder until they complete the pass and you go back to your original pace. Next time someone passes you, just tuck in on them and draft. Let them do the work

Well, drafting is illegal (you know, because people with aerobars are so wobbly and uncoordinated) in du's & tri's, normally. They disqualified or dinged at least 10 people who had done so!!
ETA: I did another sprint triathlon today, but dropped out after the bike portion. Long story. Despite 35 degree temps, sleet and even some hail, the bike portion went great, I thought. I passed 7 or 8 people and only one woman passed me.
So, hey guys, I get to add another 12.5 bike miles to my YTD.
And for my birthday in July, I'm going to get a trainer!!!
ETA again: Going to log off the forum now -- I'll lurk a bit; keep up the excellent work, guys!

Oh, I forgot that you can't draft in a race.
Since I don't do any racing. Hope you come on back, enjoy having your viewpoint.

I'm taper tweaking!!!!!
4.5 days to go. Hi guys.
But hey, I signed up for a "Cycling for Boneheaded Idiots"* class at REI. I'm going to learn how to fix a flat.
*no wait, it was the "Cycling for Pointy Headed Intellectuals" class I signed up for.
OK back into lurk mode.
Oh wait! I looked at trainers at the bike shop. They are soooo expensive! grumble grumble
