Koff, koff, hack, koff, fart, koff...
Our bike team is doing a 24 hour indoor trainer relay in two weeks. I signed up for 2 hours - 4 am to 6 am. I am dumbass, hear me roar.

uuuum...I might have to agree with you there did.
Raining outside. I have the bike sitting on the trainer right now and instead I'm doing this. I'm searching around the house for some motivation.
fxdgear
, I finished the single speed conversion on the mountain bike. It's pretty sweet. I was able to put two cogs on the rear and just move the spring chain tensioner in or out if I want speed or hills. Took about four pounds of stuff off it. Riding a hardtail is different. I'm used to the rear wheel staying on the ground more.

Just peeking in; gawking in awe.
And psyching up to go bike outside tomorrow. I have booties now; no excuses left.

Econo, welcome to the group
If you need any pointers about winter clothing, there is a portion in the later part of the "knock knock " thread that has some good info if you have not read it already.
Guys, fxdgear left the group a couple of days ago. I don't know why. I asked Eric and he could shed no light on why. I am not sure if he is still on RA. Eric did say that there have been a number of people leave the site in the last few weeks sighting, are you ready for this, "unfriendliness"
This site might not be perfect, but unfriendliness is NOT one of its problems.
Oh well. I have got to get some riding in this weekend.

Welcome Econo, nice to have you here. I think you'll find this is a great group.
I had to stop using the same excuse after Christmas. I got the whole leg and arm warmers, booties, and winter gloves thing, so absolutely no excuses for me.

I agree completely!! I went through the CoolRunning/ Active merger (disaster) and found my way here. Of the groups I'm in I haven't seen any ""unfriendliness".
The emails are circulating from the group I ride with. Looks like I'll have a choice of riding Sat or Sun.
Love to ride both, but would probably end up outside with the dog.

Yah, I read the knock knock thread (scribbling notes down). Stop being so nice -- I'm just a lowly 5K groupie.
OK, here's the real story. I suspect that bicycling is my True Calling.
But I'll never find out unless I train... so I'm here to get the occasional "attagirl" and to watch & listen to you guys. Watch me go from zero to half iron in 5 months!

Nobody's a lowly groupie here.
BTW "attagirl" for joining us. If you are going to take on cycling more full time, anyone of the three of us will try to help if you have any questions about cycling. Biggest things: find a good local bike shop that you feel comfortable with and can trust (I drive 2.5 hours to my bike shop), get a decent piece of equipment (doesn't have to be top of the line), buy some decent bike clothing and go RIDE

I have a good bike shop (actually, 2), a good entry-level bike (is that an oxymoron?) and theoretically enough bike gear...it seems infinite; you can never attain "enough" because it's asymptotic to the origin. All I lacked today was hand warmers to put in my booties. (grrr)
But! I'm going back to lurk status. This is not a forum for newbies. I promise to check in as I start winning AG ribbons
, but I don't want to influence the tenor of the forum.

Do not worry about it. It is nice to have a fresh viewpoint
It was not until my 5th year(last year) that I was able to work myself up to 5000 miles. We were all newbies once.
Don't be afraid to stick your oar in (nautical term
) Just look at this as a pace line and right now you just need to draft on us. One day you will be able to take your turn on the front to pull.

36° forecast for tomorrow, and my lungs have settled down to an occasional bulging-tongue hork, so I'm gonna try to get out on my 29er. First time turnin' pedals in almost 2 weeks. Bleah.

Man, I do not envy you at all. I am glad to hear you are finally starting to feel better.
Don't push too hard. I am finally starting to get some miles in.
Rode last Sunday. and it has either been raining or snowing every day since until today. The one day it was not precipitating, I was taking a check ride to put a new plane on our charter certificate
Got in 33+ miles this afternoon and a friend called about 6pm and lets ride
I said I had already done 33+, he said lets ride the tandem - ok. So I got in another 33+. Whew
I still have a little upper respiratory cough, so I hope I haven't overdone it

I envy you guys with the 29er's. A friend of mine has one and he kills me on the downhills
but I catch him on the climbs

Aaaaand - ow. Made it over the berm of snow between the road and the woods, but promptly dropped my front wheel into a drifted-over hole. Over the handlebars and down, hard, on my right shoulder. I don't think it's broken, as I've got pretty good range of motion (and I kept riding after the event), but some gestures really hurt. Didn't sleep worth a toot on the dumb thing last night as invariably it would flop in some really hurty way. Probably gonna head over to the medi-center on my way home and have it checked over by someone with a clue.
Mutter mutter grumble.

OK, now that's genuninely funny --
bulging tongue hork
-- but sorry to hear about the shoulder torque.
Revelation -- there exists a product that will keep my toes warm on the bike..."Toe Warmers"! I am amazed. (I need to get out more often.) Will do some product testing on Saturday.
Does spinning count? I don't log the miles; just the minutes, so the RA training log doesn't record it. I know spinning is lame, but it's
something
, isn't it?
