I keep hearing so many great things about the garmin- I would love to get one one of these days. BUT my mom swears that it wouldn't work in Hawai'i because we don't have enough satellite coverage. Does anyone know? Is my mom right?

Eh holo, my Garmin 305 worked just fine when I was on Oahu in June. It honed in on the satellites quicker than here in DC....
But, if you buy it from a place that has a great return policy (like Amazon.com) or a local store, no worries...you can always take it back.
Everywhere on the planet earth has satellite coverage...what you probably don't have is cell phone towers...
FWIW: I love my Garmin.

hi holo,
i've been using my 305 for about a year now and it works great here in O'ahu, Maui and on the Big Island. And they are getting cheaper by the day with the new 405 coming out.
aloha,
steve

hi holo,
Are you still planning to get a Garmin ? I think the 305s are getting cheaper by the minute given the new 405 model that came out. I'm planning to get the 405 for my wife with tax money. It looks like a regular watch instead of a portable TV.

Wow- I checked out the 405- it looks nice (my husband said- "no way" when I asked him to buy it for me)!!! I am compulsively cruising the web looking for my perfect heart rate monitor- haven't decided on anything yet though.
Did you get hit with all that rain? I haven't run all week due to the flooding- I'm starting to go nuts!
