Visiting Hawaii in Feb...suggestions for runs? (Read 96 times)

Aloha! My husband and I will be ditching the cold DC area in February and spending 10 days between Kauai (Lihue Marriott) and the Big Island (Waikoloa Beach Marriott). I'd like to keep my marathon training alive while we're down there and am hoping not to have to spend too much time on the hotel treadmills! Does anyone have any suggestions for places to run in those areas that would be safe for a single female? What time of day would be best to get out? Are there trails? I am absolutely clueless and would love any suggestions!

Thank you so much!
Shake it!
kcdollar,

Unfortunately i'm not too familiar with Lihue and i've been to Waikoloa only several times. I know that the whole Waikoloa complex is fairly large, with a pretty big golf course. I'm guessing you can run around the whole complex and get a good workout, beats the treadmill anyway. You can also run to the next resort over, the Mauna Lani to add some extra distance. These big resort complexes are pretty safe. You can also run along the main highway while imagining that you are running the marathon portion of the ironman Smile . Also going along the main highway going towards the south there are number of trails that go off the main road towards the ocean if you feel more adventurous. Just remember that it gets hot fast. Run early the morning (unless you like running while getting baked by the overhead sun and the reflected heat off of the lava rocks Smile ), and then jump in the ocean at the end of your run.

Have fun on your trip.
