Asheville's Not-So-Competitive Running

Valentine's 5K (Read 154 times)

Beware, batbear...

Anybody else running this?  It's in Black Mountain.

    2012 Goals:

    1.  1100+ miles.

    2.  Streak starting in March or April if I'm healed.

    3.  100 Push up challenge to get some upper body strength back.

    4.  Get weight under 180 by the end of the summer.

    5.  1 or fewer alcoholic drinks 4+ nights per week every week.

    6.  Concentrate on 5K distance and September HM.

    7.  Have fun!

I'm planning on being there now that it was canceled and rescheduled for the 20th. Not so good for those planning it last week I'm sure but great for me. I was in Myrtle Beach in the middle of the marathon that was canceled. Weird weather we're having!

Anyhoo, between me and my wife we're 114 years old and I was excited to see that they've got an award for the fastest husband and wife team. We're in the "Platinum" category -- 100 and over! Haha... I never realized how old we are until now. So if all of the fast geezer couples stay home and my wife wears her bunion pads we might win the category... it would be fun!

We're planning on spending the night somewhere up there then run the Fletcher 5k on Sunday afternoon (02/21/10). Anybody running that one?

      Beware, batbear...

I hadn't even considered the Fletcher 5k.  I'm busy until late Saturday night.  We'll see how it goes.  I've heard the Fletcher race is a pretty good time, though.  Have fun!

Where you guys coming in from?

The Fletcher race is fun. We did it last year. It was really cold but you're able to stay inside until the start of the race then go back in for the awards and after-race refreshments. Hope the weather's better this weekend!

We're coming up from Gastonia. I do most of the Charlotte races but like the races in the Asheville area when I can get up there.

So they did reschedule the Valentine's race? Next weekend may work better for me anyway.

Old-runner- at what point did they cancel the Myrtle Beach Marathon.  I checked the website abot 7:30pm on Friday and it was stil on. That has to be incredibly frustrating!

"Stadiums are for spectators. We runners have nature and that is much better."

There's one little blurb about the Valentine race being rescheduled here...

It was kind of frustrating that the MB Marathon was canceled but it turned out to be a pretty good weekend since there so many runners out in the streets.
