How was your election day? (Read 50 times)

    Did you vote?

I went 0-4 on town officials - hopefully the candidates will keep taxes down and snow plowed.  I don't ask for much else.

There was no issue that compelled me to vote in my home city but in my work city, an enemy of my coworkers and I was not re-elected and an important proposal passed.  Not that any of that matters, I mean after all it's politics so you lose even when you win.

Sorry you were skunked J, that stinks.

We also had elections last Sunday. Over 11,000 municipalities in Quebec had to go to the polls. The candidate I voted for in my town lost and the same crooked party that's been in place for the last 12 years was re-elected. In Montreal, same thing, except the corruption there is 100 x more. Why can't we have a cool mayor like Toronto's Mayor FordBig grin

I have a 25+ year streak of never missing an election so go always. However I am still fairly new to my town, so don't follow the local races enough yet like I used to. My voting yesterday was based on signs on my street, and who was out in the cold holding them.

We still have a special election coming up because of 1 that snowballed when John Kerry became Secretary of State. That led to a new Senator election plus primary, which led to a new US Rep election plus primary, and will lead to a special State Senator election plus primary but not in my town thankfully. Of course none of these special elctions could happen on the same day we went to the polls for a regular one so that our towns could save $.

I am always excited to get out and vote but I skipped it yesterday.  The last time I went to vote in my local elections, I got the ballot and didn't recognize 95% of the names on the it, and I refuse to just vote blindly for one party.  I really have no idea who to vote for on the finance committee, board of education, or fire marshall alternate.  So, I leave the local elections for the people who actually know who the hell they are voting for.  Seems like the biggest issues facing my town are whether or not to allow another grocery store to open on the other side of town.

No election day for me.  All the state offices are on even years, and town meeting is in the spring.  Some nearby cities had elections, but nothing that impacted me.  Well, a co-worker ran unsuccessfully for school board in one of them, but it was his first race so was really just getting his name out.

We didn't have an election yesterday but that's my feeling on the local stuff too, primarily because I vote in my parents' town and I don't actually live there (still a student at the ripe old age of 27!). But when we finally settle down in a town where I actually have a stake in what's happening I'll familiarize myself with the candidates and vote.

Election day for my city yesterday. Looks like everything went my way.

My neighbor won her election to the city council. Yay.

                        Is that a good thing?

And is it true that you do not need to present any ID when you vote, or is that just an urban legend around here?

It's a very controversial issue south of the border. Varies by state/county.

                            I think it's a good thing. I'm pro casino.

I have not been IDed to vote in my district, but they do compare signatures. I voted on the way back from my run yesterday morning and the only ID I had on me was my RoadID.

This is true in NY, and a bit unsettling.  All you have to do is sign a book, and the book contains an example of your signature!  It would not be very hard to vote as someone else.

Re: casinos, they infuriate me.  Special interest groups or investors (read: campaign contributors) with deep pockets get to make a mint when they woo the right politicians.  Meanwhile, I can't make a little extra loot online at PokerStars any more, because the rake isn't going to the "right" people.  We'll just pretend that online gaming got yanked in 'Murica to protect us from ourselves, but it's perfectly ok to go gamble in casinos.

I think that it's terrible that in MA we never have to show ID either. The home we own still has past tenants registered to vote at my address. I can show up later and be them or anyone else for that matter.

As far as casinos I think that I have spent a total of $25 in my life, hanging out with my wife (my in-laws go). I have no interest in gambling again at all, but I want them in MA for the jobs. Too much MA $ leaves the state (no offense CT or RI) for casinos that could be spent here. In MA I believe 4 casinos passed 2 years ago, but the first one got officially voted in Tuesday in Boston. It got rejected in 1 town, and is moving slowly in the others.
