Finally Friday Penguins!! (Read 29 times)

Dad on the run.

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

    Barking Mad To Run

Nice run/walk yesterday afternoon around 2 pm.  Sunny, 79 degrees, 29% humidity, low dew-point  Went to one of my favorite parks and did my outing on the trails.  After the rain we had, the trails were still firm enough to run on but just soft enough to feel great on the legs.  Ended up doing 5K distance.  This was my third consecutive running day in a row - unusual for me, as I usually run every other day - and my legs surprisingly feel pretty good.  I also met a GIANT Great Dane, a very friendly dog that I gave a treat to.  Nice outing.

Today is a rest day.  Was supposed to have a 5K tomorrow, one that is to help raise funds for a 7-year old girl with cancerr.  However, it got postponed to a later date. Hoping this was not due to something happening with the little girl, she had a relapse, etc. Anyway, so now for a rare change I have no weekend race scheduled, so I will just do some relaxing running on my own this weekend.

      Dad on the run.

So our local Fleet Feet was having Ladies Night lastnight so I took Ashley and the kids so she could find her a new pair of running shoes. She went with the Gel-Nimbus 16s but we had to order them because they didn't have her size in stock Sad

The cool thing with all this though is we got 20% off since it was ladies night, she got a free t-shirt and I was able to enjoy a Good People IPA while I waited Smile

Doing my first ever trail run after work with a buddy, we will see how that works out.

          Hi Pens.

I will get in six miles later, after it cools off a bit. Nine days and counting...

          Zelanie

Hi Pens.  7-8 today after work.  It's cooled off a bit, so Texas can have its weather back.  I'm thinking of adding a pair of higher-drop (well, 8mm) shoes into my rotation to see if that helps a bit with my self-diagnosed PF or whatever it is.  It's actually doing a lot better lately, though yesterday and today it hasn't felt great.

Scotty- Hopefully the girl just got an opportunity to meet with a specialist in the field who is out of town, or something like that.  Enjoy the rest weekend!

Jimmy- Glad your wife found the shoes she wanted.  I bet the baby got plenty of oohs and aahs!

Jack- Are you going to run with DW, or each of you at your own pace?

              Morning All.

I did a MaxHR test this morning plus 2 after that. Trying to figure out what it all means. It was lower than expected.  May start a separate post for HR, VO2Max and LT discussion.

Hey, Pens. Looks like my streak of starting the thread is over. I actually slept later this morning. And then I went to PT and graduated! Yay! Buns of steel, I have. RD for me.

Zel: The plan is to run with DW. If I can keep up, I would like to finish around 3:53ish..

PAD: My dad is from Germany and still has relatives there. I have been several times myself and it makes for a great trip.

                  Singer who runs a smidge

Morning, Penguins!!  Well, despite my best efforts to spend less money, I have spent nearly $300 this morning.  Though a good bit of it will come back to me ....  Gurney, the plant company, had a special of 5 rosebushes for $20 (regular price is $150 for five), and since DH and I had been talking about turning one of our beds into a rosebed, I ordered 10 rosebushes.  I couldn't choose specific colors, but it's a variety, so I was easily hooked.  And then in June there's a concert of men's barbershop choruses and quartets -- a couple of the best choruses in the world, and three quartets.  Two of the quartets are international winners, and the third has placed high.  So, way exciting!!  DH and I are going with three of my chorus members, and I offered to get the tickets for everyone so we could all sit together.  And lo, there went $235.  It's always that choice between "Should I really buy that?" and "Won't I really hate it if I miss this because I didn't want to spend the money?"  So I spent.  Yoga this afternoon and a walk tonight!

scottydawg -- enjoy your relaxing weekend!!

jblack -- now THAT'S the way to shop!!

Jack -- enjoy your cooled-off miles!!

Zelanie -- after running in VFF's, putting on a pair of "normal" shoes feels really really weird!!  Hope it works for you!!

PAD -- yeah, I have no idea what any of those numbers actually mean.

obie -- woo-hoo for your graduation and your steel buns!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

Do it.  It's a very good discussion.  Explain your MaxHR test because there are other ways too.  And I would like to hear all about it, ha.

Morning!  In court on vacation, yay.  Following that it's a 3 hour drive to Orlando, errands and flying out tomorrow for my race.

Damaris - how can you be in court and on vacation?  They're making you work on your vacation day?  Where is surfer's path marathon?  Have fun at the race.

Jimmy - thanks for starting us.  I'm glad your wife was able to find a shoe she likes, even if it's not in stock yet.  Discounts are always good.  I wish I could find one for shoes I like.  Is your wife running again?

Scotty - sorry your race was cancelled, but I'm sure you'll find someplace interesting to run.

Jack - I hope the cooler weather arrives soon for you.  It is much cooler here.

Zelanie - enjoy your evening run.  What shoes are you looking at?

PAD - I know absolutely nothing about any of that.  Looking forward to reading the discussion.

Obiebyke - hurray for finishing PT!

HM - sounds like a great concert.  Which groups?  Enjoy your walk and yoga tonight.

AFM:  the rain has stopped (we got inundated last night) but it's still damp and grey.  I think I'll wait a few hours to see if the sun comes out before going for my run.  I may do a LR today because DH is talking about going south to visit the kids this weekend.  I never get any real exercise when we do that.

Alexandria Harmonizers, Ambassadors of Harmony, Vocal Spectrum (my fave!!), Crossroads (has Jim Henry, of Gas House Gang), and Da Capo.  This may be too much barbershop awesomeness for one concert hall!!

Hey all.  I'm back.  Starting from ground up.  On another path of self discovery, again.  LOL  However, here I be.  Glad to see this group is still plodding along.

                              Return To Racing

Enjoy the race free weekend, Scott.

Hope the trail run goes well, Jimmy.

Have a nice 6, Jack.  My cousins live in Berlin.  Met them there about 30 years ago and haven't been back.

Hope the PF gets better Zel.

PAD, I have no idea what you are talking about, but hope it works.

                                Congrats on PT graduation, Obie.

HsM, we saw Sound of Music yesterday.  It was fantastic in the Lyric Opera... "Climb Every Mountain".  That was special.

                                Save drive, Docket.
