Mommy Day Sunday Penguins (Read 21 times)

obiebyke

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

                    Happy Mother's Day Pengma's.

Planning 3-4 later today since we had a "big" breakfast.  Might be a good day for our first lakefront run of the year.

                      Return To Racing

3.5 on the Northwestern campus.  Nice day and lake was beautiful, but construction is a pain.  Big Endowment.  HR still running a little high in mid 140's and I'm running kind of slow.

Beautiful 75 and sunny day, though still humid.  I ran home from the grocery.  It started out to be 4, but the day was so nice and the run felt so easy I added some extra side streets to make it 6.  I was really wishing I had brought water, but otherwise it was a really nice run.  Mother's Day is feeling hard this year for some reason.  Ten years since my mother passed away.  My Dad is celebrating his 90th this month and somehow it makes me miss my mother more.  No kids, so I don't get to celebrate at all.  Mostly I don't care, but some days it's harder.

Obiebyke - enjoy your dinner with your mom.  I hope you had a restful day.

sapf - did you get your bike ride in?  What did you end up doing at the race?

Amy/Stonefence - what race?  Are you doing a RR?

Jack - how is the PF?

Jerry - could the heat be affecting HR?  Nice to be able to run near the lake though, lots of breezes.

                          Caretaker/Overlook Hotel

Made the wife biscuits & gravy this morning (her fav), even cleaned up after myself.

Got a few in on the hamster wheel before church & now even being allowed to watch Formula 1 before we meet up w/ rest of fam for dinner later.

                              Zelanie

Found some of my missing mojo today I think.  I'm pretty much sold on Hanson's for my marathon, and that plan would start in June, so I wanted to try a few things out.  The main one is that their LR pace is faster than I'm used to, about 30 seconds slower than MP, which is about a minute slower than I've been running mine lately.  In fact, I haven't run that pace at all lately- I've either been slower (mostly) or faster (speed work).  So I wasn't sure at all how it would go.  Also, they recommend fuel for anything longer than an hour, so I took a gel at 45 minutes, which is way sooner than I'm used to.

I really liked it.  I had forgotten how much I liked that pace.  I thought it might feel hard and tiring, since I'm tired when I run them slower, I should be more tired from running faster, right?  But I do feel a bit lighter on my feet, or something, at that pace, so it made for a very nice run.  Plus it was a really nice day.  I overdressed a bit in long sleeves, but a breeze came up which helped a bit, plus I had water with me since I had taken the gel.

DH and DD made a nice breakfast this morning, and we are going to go see the "new" Miyazaki movie later on, so all in all a very nice day.  Hope the other penguin moms are having a good time as well.

Ginny- (Hugs).  Sorry that you are missing your mom today.  So if you ran home from the grocery store, how did that work?  Did DH drive home with the food or were you carrying bags?

Obie- Enjoy the RD and the time with your mom.

Robert- Thanks, and hope you guys are having a great day!

                                D- Hiya!

sapf- Thanks for volunteering.  Sounds like a good running weekend for you!

                                SF- Congratulations on your race!
