Yikes...... I have a HM one month from today....was still holding onto the hope of running it.... I read something somewhere that you can do 50% of your pre-injury mileage one week, 75% the next and 100% the next, then add back speed work.... I was hoping to hear more like that...

    PRs:   5K- 28:16 (5/5/13)      10K- 1:00:13 (10/27/13)    4M- 41:43 (9/7/13)   15K- 1:34:25  (8/17/13)    10M- 1:56:30 (4/6/14)     HM- 2:20:16 (4/13/14)     Full- 5:55:33 (11/1/15)

There's a bunch of theories out there. I heard for every week out it takes two weeks to come back or something like that. Personally doing a half after being injured and just getting back to running is not what I would do, but that is only my opinion.

      Running is my mental-Ctrl-Alt-Del.

kristin, remind me how long you were out?  I'm thinking the HM in a month is a bit too aggressive ...

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

6 weeks. I'm trying to find the balance between "hopeful" and "realistic"....I knew Sunday's half wasn't realistic so I'm dealing with the DNS (rather unhappily but I'm dealing) but I have a HM 2/23 and another 3/15.... I'm still holding out hope for those but I'm wondering if I should just give up...

6 weeks of no running and a HM in a month do not compute, at least not in my experience!  Sorry Sad

Yay yay yay! I know I'm a bit carried away here, but I actually left the house today on my own. I drove to the grocery store, did some shopping, and filled my cart up with all carbs. LOL. So nice to leave the house. Its been only 6 days. Feeling hopeful. Can't wait to start PT and get moving again.

Well, I did 6 weeks off and then ran a 50 miler less than a month later, so just go for the ultra and you'll be fine.

                    JUST KIDDING.

You're a newer runner, so taking things slowly is the best approach.

                    Running is dumb.

Did you ever determine the root cause of your current injury?  From what I recall, you ran a half marathon and inexplicably came up injured a day or two afterwards, is that correct?

Based on a six week layoff from running, Daniel's chart for returning from a setback would have you running a third of your previous weekly mileage load for 14 days, then half of it for 15 days, then 75% of it for 15 days plus strides.  But of course you can do whatever the hell you want.  lol

I have to agree with the above statement about finding out the cause of your injury. With my current injury, I have a plan of attack going forward and I'm hoping that PT will help me get back on my feet even if its just for short distance. I think doing a half marathon right after being injured isn't such a good idea. That is the reason why I usually don't pre register for races. Good luck with what you decide. Did you ever go to PT or find put if you need a different shoe or orthotic? PT may be a good resource to look at your gait and to help with any weakness that you may have.

I don't have a choice but to preregister for races....most of the races I want to do either sell out or become unaffordable several months before the race. I can't afford PT and the doctor said I don't need it. I am going to get new shoes on Saturday though. I think I need something more neutral. Orthotics aren't going to work for me either every custom insole or prefab one has caused excruciating pain. I don't have $500 to spend on orthotics that will hurt me.

As to the root cause my doctor thinks it was just a freak accident. I have been looking into this PT place in my borough that has a runners clinic and does gait analysis and lots of good stuff. But it is $375.

I hear you on the cost of PT. I'm hoping I will only need a few weeks. I hate paying twenty dollars a visit for stuff I know. I just need guidance.
