Penguin's Black SaturDAILY ??? (Read 31 times)

Return To Racing

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here.

Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the caommon benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."

It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)v

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

Good luck on the races Scott, Bin, and Kristin.

I cam tell the blood clot is still there. Calf feels very tingly today. It is much better though now than two weeks ago. I am lucky they finally figured it out.

              Personal Bests:

              800M - 2:38 (5/28/13) | 1 Mile -5:54 (5/28/13) | 3K - 11:55 (12/29/12) | 2M - 13:00 (12/1/12) | 5K - 20:00 (4/12/13) | 13.1M - 1:37:24 (2/3/13)

              From the Internet.

Morning all! Have not decided yet whether I'll do my long run this afternoon or take an SRD and run tomorrow instead. Woke up kinda tired and my phone told me it was 19F/feels like 10 and man, I just did not feel like getting out of my warm bed and dressing for that kind of cold today :P I just signed up for the winter running game so that should help motivate me on weekdays when I really do have to run early or not at all.

My poor dog peed on the kitchen floor in the wee hours of the morning (ha, wee...) for the third time in the last couple weeks, which is highly unusual for her, so we have a vet appointment at 11:15 to check for a UTI. Ugh... I wrote the first time off as a fluke, but had asked DH to take her after the second time it happened and he declined to be an adult and call the vet. He was the one who wanted a dog and I agreed that we could adopt one if he'd be responsible for all the dog things, since I do all the kid/cat/household things, so I'm pretty irritated with him at the moment.

                  Good Morning Penguins!

Cheri - (((((Hugs))))))) and prayers to you and your friend.

Good luck to kristin scotty and bin.

Bin - with the time difference you are either about to race, racing, or you are finished! Any way good luck and/or congratulations!

Good runs and rest days to everyone!

As for me - 9 miles at 19 - minimal wind. At about 6 miles let's just say my vision became frozen - I could clearly see the ground but street signs and such were blurry. All is good now!

I'm so vegetarian I don't even eat animal crackers!

                  Skirt Runner

29:03 this morning.... Not a PR. Between a feels like temp of 16 degrees and a steep hill, I kind of let my pace slip big time in the back half despite starting at PR pace (my PR is 28:16). But it was for my Uncle and that was what was important! 2 5K PR attempts with one day rest in between was maybe a bit too adventurous.... Looking back I wish I'd not have tried to PR on Thanksgiving because I think I would have had it in me today.... But I wanted that race to be a PR and today to be for fun, decided though to see what I had in me today anyway though. For what it's worth, I finished 24 seconds faster today than Thurs.

                    PRs:   5K- 28:16 (5/5/13)      10K- 1:00:13 (10/27/13)    4M- 41:43 (9/7/13)   15K- 1:34:25  (8/17/13)    10M- 1:56:30 (4/6/14)     HM- 2:20:16 (4/13/14)     Full- 5:55:33 (11/1/15)

I started a blog about running :) Check it out if you care to

                      G'morning penguins!

Docket-- Have a safe travel day.  I hope you and the hubby have a great time, and do great tomorrow.

Jerry-- Oh I bet your house looks fab with the tree up!

PAD-- Hi ya!  Good deal on the 3!

Dan-- yikes!  Shouldn't the clot be totally gone by now?  As long as its there, isn't there a possibly of it breaking off and possibly causing a stroke or heart attack?

Lauren-- I'm not even sure what 10* feels like anymore, but I know it can't be good!   Ahhhh@ the dog.  Bet she didn't wanna go out in that cold!  Actually, I hope she's okay.

Gus-- awesome, cold miles for you.  Brrrrr!  Hope your eyeballs have thawed.

kristin-- that's still a good time.  I know I couldn't have expected to do my best in races that close together.  At least you had fun.

Bin-- keep thinking about you, and hoping your race was a blast.  Can't wait to hear about it.

5 MP miles for me.  It was actually nice today.  I didn't wear my earmuffs or gloves, and I had to take my jacket off about 1/2 mile into the run.  Thanks everyone for the kind words about my friend.

Did a 5K this morning.  This was my 68th race of 2013.    Report and photos are here:

Gail and I were going to the University of Texas San Antonio football game today, but she is not feeling so well, slight fever, upset stomach, etc.  She said we should go anyway, but I told her NO.  The Alamodome in San Antonio can be pretty 'drafty' and I don't her to get any sicker.   I think my True Love's health is a bit more important than a football game.   Big grin  So she is now resting and I am watching football on TV.

One more 5K for me this holiday weekend.  I am doing my 3rd 5K of the holiday weekend tomorrow at 9 a.m. in Downtown San Antonio.

Jack, I've enjoyed your Zion pics. I want to visit there!

16 mile LR this morning with my great running friends. I went and bought some Montrail inserts, socks, and my darling wife got a pair of Brooks Ghost in pink. We got the big Iron Bowl ball game coming on, then I need to do a test run with the new inserts. Goal is super easy, recovery pace for at least 1.84 miles.
