Winter Running Jackets/Vests (Read 321 times)

So typically when I run outside in the winter, I'll run with shorts, gloves, a hat and a hoodie + tights if it's below 30ish. It's been working out fine, but the hoodie just seems too baggy sometimes. Also when I sweat, the cotton just soaks it up haha.

I'm looking to replace the hoodie with a jacket or something else. Do you guys have any recommendations on any good, reasonably priced [under $100... under $50 even better =] jackets?

I got a running jacket on runningwarehouse.com last year.  Definitely not bulky, has tons of pockets, and a hood.  I love it!  It was probably in the $50-$60 range, but I can't remember for sure.  They might have different things for guys and girls, but you could go check it out.  They do free shipping too.

I use this.  I like it a lot...its a vest and a jacket.  At the top end of your budget but it is a very nice piece of gear.

I like the looks of that Solomon but a reading about it, it seems more like a shell than warm wear. But then OP says his hoodie gets soaked with sweat, so maybe he is overdressing up top considering the lower half is very light with either shorts or tights(assuming unlined).

I wear a Sugoi Speedster 3 jacket/1/4 zip shirt thing that is incredibly awesome! More like a pair of insulated tights but for your torso. I wear a tech shirt underneath until I hit sub zero temps, then I pair it with a Patagonia nano puff vest.

Idk if I'm overdressing, I think I just tend to sweat more in general haha =P

I have the Brooks Silver Bullet jacket and LOVE it. It's super lightweight, yet REALLY warm. It's expensive ($150) but occasionally there is a color on sale for $100 or less. I've worn it almost every day below 30 degrees and it's been well worth the cost.

I prefer a shell for running, then I can layer beneath it as needed, with the shell as protection from wind and/or precip. This morning our wind chill was -3* and I wore just the shell linked below over a Nike Dri-Fit mockneck top, similar to UnderArmour ColdGear.

I have the women's equivalent of this jacket from Brooks.

I also have an Old Navy jacket that was a door prize at our running club's banquet that works well. Similar material, though it doesn't have zippers on the pockets or the vents in the back.

20,000 miles behind me, the world still to see.

The New Balance Windblocker is the only running jacket I will ever need.

From 30 down to 10 degrees, I wear just a long sleeve tech shirt under it.  From 10 to zero, I wear two shirts.

Below zero and I wear lounge gear while drinking wine and smoking zee pipe in me cozy cottage!

So far, 28 degrees.  That was only with a thin long sleeve tech shirt underneath and I was toasty warm.  The tech shirt wasn't even the thicker-style cold gear type material, it was the very thin kind that would be more for spring or fall temps.  The jacket has a silver aluminum-type fiber lining that heats extraordinarily well.  I was actually shocked at how thin it is, yet how warm.

Ooo, I like that jacket, MJ5! I googled it and that looks like the schizzle! So far I have loved every Brooks apparel gear I have purchased!

I have a Brooks Nightlife jacket that I'm in love with.  They're just over $100 but you can find previous seasons' versions for less.

If cost is a priority, why not look at C9 from Target?  They have decent running gear and several different jacket options.  I have several pieces from Target & I've never been disappointed, especially considering the price.

Well, I live in the Chicagoland area, so pretty much everything. Typically, we have harsher winters that would force me inside, but with temps from the high teens-low thirties, I've stuck it out outside with my hoodie and stuff. I've run in colder, but not this year... yet =]

Well, technically, it's not a running jacket but here's what I wore today (27 degrees, calm):

Running pants with shorts over them.

                                Long-sleeved tech shirt.

Wifebeater (sleeveless T for those that never watched "COPS")

                                Short sleeved tech shirt.

NASCAR Matt Kenseth windbreaker jacket with thin, thin poly lining.

Chattanooga Track Club thin cloth gloves

                                Lightweight knit hat

                                I was comfortable.
