Barking Mad To Run

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

    Barking Mad To Run

Terpischorean: related to dancing.   In Greek mythology, Terpischore  was one of the nine Muses and the goddess of dance and chorus.  Her name derives from the Greek words meaning 'delight' and 'dance'.

So get out there today, Penguins, and use your terpischorean skills for whatever you have planned....RUN and enjoy your dance of life in your own individual, inimitable fashion!

Beautiful day for a run after work here in San Antonio.  74 degrees for my run-time, 22 percent humidity, dewpoint in the upper 40s, sweeeet!  Plan a nice 3 - 4 miles on the lovely trails in the park near the Zoo.   How about you? What will your 'dance' be today?

      on my way to badass

Good morning Penguins and Scotty. SA weather sounds sweet Scotty! Some mileage for me today after the fog burns off.

Still waiting for the perfect race picture. 5K PR-33:52 , 10K PR 1:11:16, First HM 2:42:28

I definitely have that day-after-the-day-after soreness from Bodypump! Good thing it's a RD for me.

Good morning all.  I'm not very good at dancing or singing, but I'm enthusiastic .

Lots of "flood" stories being shared at work this morning.  There's a large creek that many of us have to cross between work and home, and three out of the four bridges are / were closed at various times yesterday and this morning.  It's causing quite a traffic jam.

I'm not sure if I will be able to take my planned running route (along that creek) today.  I know I cannot go south -- the trail in that direction is definitely flooded.  I think I should be okay going north; I guess I'll find out later.  About 5 miles planned after work,  then later dinner at a Japanese hibachi restaurant to celebrate DD's graduation last weekend.

Morning!  My track workout was OK last night, but my splits were all over the place because I'm not used to running the faster, shorter intervals or what it should feel like.  I did get some tips on my form, though, that I should lower my hands and lean forward, and that seemed to help.  Not sure if that's just because I had a pacer for that one, though.

Today I just have a couple easy miles with the kids' track club, then another evening event at school.

Scotty- I am definitely not coordinated enough to be a dancer.  That's why I like running! Smile  Hope you enjoy your terpsichhorean day!

SF- Hope you have a good run!

obie- Enjoy the RD and the feeling that you know you did your body good yesterday.

Margo- Yikes!  I had to navigate around floodwaters a few times last winter.  It definitely made even my easy routes an adventure!  Hope your adventure goes well.

Phillie, be careful with all that flooding.

I am looking for 10 after work. NOBO class mixed in there too.

                Return To Racing

'Morning  !!!!  Taking another Thursday off.  Ran a half mile on the TM and knee was good, so probably run another mile or 2 with DW a little later hopefully when it gets up to 50F.  Dogsitting for DD1 and "babysitting" DD2 who is between job contracts and is bored.

Finally got the dumb flat panel.  We are late adopters   !!!

                  Singer who runs a smidge

Morning, Penguins!! Quartet rehearsal last night was wonderful, so good to sing with my girls again!! Dusty and DH didn't sleep well last night -- Dusty has a habit of raiding the kitty litter boxes for "cookies", so he had diarrhea which kept them both up all night. I left Dusty sleeping on the futon and DH curled up in bed. I doubt either one of them is awake yet! And today is my Thriday, because there's a collegiate bike race coming through campus tomorrow and Saturday and it's supposed to make a mess of travel. We've all been advised to telecommute or take annual leave if possible. Hey, want me to take a vacation day? No problem!!

Scotty -- Sounds like gorgeous weather!! We're finally not having rain today, but my container plants are literally swimming. Hope some of that moisture evaporates out before the roots rot!!

Stone -- good luck with the fog-burning miles!!

Obie -- have a good RD!!

Phillie -- the Japanese restaurant sounds awesome!! Can I come? I can be there around ... midnight?

Zelanie -- hope it all comes together for you!!

hog -- have a good 10 and NOBO!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

                    Singer who runs a smidge

Jerryb -- enjoy the day off and new TV!!  DH and I are testing out a stand-alone DVD player this weekend, so it'll be a movie with the projector on the wall.  As "big screen" as we can get it!!

                        Morning all. 3+ miles w 8x400 today.

May 1 and 46 degrees in Dallas this morning.

                        Zelanie

                          Jerry- Enjoy the new TV!

HsM- We call the cat box the "salad bar" because that's what Mia thinks it is.  We keep it close off behind a pressure gate.

PAD- Sounds like a perfect temp for a on on my end. Smile

Morning!  Super busy today even though I am working from home.  18.10 miles this morning, the last 8 on the TM due to the heat.

                            BBL!

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

                            on my way to badass

The sun came out and I got 5 miles done. It was ugly, but its done.

Scotty - sounds like a perfect day for a run.  Enjoy your zoo route.

Amy - fog will keep you cool anyway.  Have a good run.

Obiebyke - maybe go for a bit of a walk to loosen up the sore muscles?

Margo - eastern PA got a lot more rain than we did.  I think being between mountain ridges keeps a lot of the bad weather away.  Our creek was a bit high, but never got to flood stage.  Good luck finding a dry place to run this afternoon.

Z - I've only ever done speedwork on a TM, which ensures keeping on pace.  It's a lot better to do it on a track where you learn what the different paces really feel like.

Mitch - do your other NOBO mentors run with you before or after class?

Jerry - I'm glad the knee is behaving.  Good luck this evening.

Hopesmom - enjoy your day off tomorrow.

PAD - that's amazingly cool for Dallas in May.  Enjoy the coolth.

Damaris - good job on the early 18.  I think I would have a hard time trying to work after a really long hot run.  I tend to want to nap after a hard one.
