The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the caommon benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)
Morning! LR tonight.

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

Morning, everyone!
Got my 6 in yesterday, but the hills kicked my butt! SIL lives at the bottom of a huge hill, so to get anywhere, you have to run up it and then back down. Then you do the same on the way back. Since I felt pretty fatigued and this is supposed to be a recovery week, I will call today a SRD.
We have Zoe's vet appointment in a couple of hours. Hoping for good news, but not really expecting it at this point. We'll see.
From the Internet.
Hi pens! Copy/pasting from the Dailies because my coffee has kicked in and it's time to clean my house, haha
4.9 this morning in perfect running weather (35, no wind, overcast). Which brings me to TWENTY POINT TWO for the week! My highest mileage week ever, I almost cried - it's been over a year of injuries, stubbornness, deep water running, PT visits, and strength training to get to this point, I was beginning to think I'd never get over 15/week without getting hurt. But I did it!

Hey everyone!
Back to the land of the internet. Love staying at the inlaws, and running in the country, but the no internet, no cell phone reception thing gets old after a while. Gotta have my internet fix. lol So sad.
Well, after being exceptionally lazy this past week following my 50k (ran twice, for four miles each time, felt fine, just used the holidays/travel as an excuse to be lazy lol), I am now 40 miles from my completely arbitrary goal for the year of 2500 miles. Gonna go for a run after the game and see what kind of long run I can cobble together. Then we'll see what happens over the next two days. I have a sneaking suspicion that I will still reach my completely arbitrary goal, just because it's there.
Hope everyone has been doing great and has a great day!
-Dave

Goals | sub-18 5k | sub-3 marathon 2:56:46!!
Dave, 2500 is a big milestone, congrats. I don't think I'll ever reach that many; there's just not enough hours in the day.
Zel, I hope all goes well for Zoe.
Lauren, Congrats on your milestone too! I remember hitting 20 mpw, and thinking, how did I just do that.
Rain and a tattoo on yesterday trumped me running. So' I'll go take the new shoes for a test run here a bit later.

Nice tat Mitch!
I checked in late yesterday after most people were probably done checking the boards for the night but I finally got my MRI results read over the phone. NO FRACTURE but I do have trauma to the posterior tibial tendon, the talonavicular ligament, inflammation of the synovial fluid, and I keep forgetting a minor bone contusion. How all this happened I do not know. And why all of those things are on my inner foot/ankle but the pain is on the outer side I also don't understand.

Z - good luck at the vet's. I hope there are alternatives to surgery. Enjoy your Sunday rest day.
Damaris - have a good long run.
Lauren - congratulations on hitting 20.
Dave - 2500 miles - that's incredible. 40 miles in 3 days, the week after your ultra, may be pushing it a bit.
Mitch - nice shoes, nice tattoo. Have fun later.
AFM: Cold rainy day here, so I'll get on the TM this afternoon to do my 3.
Nice shoe porn.
Kristin, good that it is not a fracture but that sounds like a lot of shit going on in there.
Barking Mad To Run
Did my 75th race of the year on Saturday. Now I'm done for the year. That is probably as high as I will get for the rest of my running life. This was a run on the beach too, which was interesting. Report and photos at this link: http://www.runningahead.com/groups/BF_and_Beyond/forum/77f5d931cfe74e248216066ff2530e65/resume#focus .
My legs were a bit sore from the beach-slant running so this morning I went to Lackland Air Force Base to run 3 easy miles and take the 'kinks' out of my legs. I guess they were not as sore as I thought because by Mile 1.5 I was feeling really good and ended up running over 3 steep pedestrian overpasses and also did a run/walk for a total of 51 minutes, dang. So much for 'easy 3', lol. But the legs now feel great! Tomorrow, though, is definitely a rest day.
Congrats on the hills, Zelanie. Sorry to hear about Zoe, I did not realize she was that sick. Wishing you all the best!
Good luck with the long run tonite, Damaris!
Congrats, Lauren, on your 20 mile week, way to go!
Wow, Dave, 2500 ,miles for the year, way to go! I bet you will get it! Congrats on your 50K.
Is that one pair of shoes, Dave, with a different color on each side, or is that 2 different pair of shoes? Either way..very colorful!
Glad you have no fracture, Kristin, but sorry about the continuing foot pain. If I remember correctly, if your foot hurts at a spot that is not the location of the problem, I think that is called 'referred" pain and it's kind of a warning to you that something is amiss. So now that 'they" - the medical powers that be - know what the problem is, what is the treatment plan for you to get better?
Ugg, cold rainy day, Ginny, sounds...cold and rainy! Good luck with the TM run.

Maybe a fracture would be better than all this !!! Hope you heal quickly, Kristin.
SRD for us today.
Yeah I seriously don't know if it's good or bad news...

Scotty, congrats on the 75 races! It is 2 different pair of shoes.
Guess you're not so slow
Ran a nice 3 miles today before the rains came. PB for 3 on my running trail. 10:06, 10:04, 10:00.
