Maybe he's coming around? Maybe not. (Read 544 times)

@runjerseygirl

    So, I got a text from DH (read: dickhead) yesterday, asking me, if he wanted to get me something for Christmas, how would he go about getting it without me knowing what he ordered (we have a joint account).  We settled on him paying $200 on his credit card, and using that to make the purchase.  I've been not-so-subtly letting him know that I want a Garmin(ish) for the last few months, because I'm tired of shoving my phone (with I use RunKeeper) into my bra when I run.  I'm thinking that might be what he's getting me.  Fantastic!

    But when he texted me to confirm that he paid on his CC, I jokingly (with a winky face) texted back "WHAT?!? We don't have that kind of money!!!"  Of course it was a joke, because we just had this discussion that he would do this.  His response was "I know, we don't."  I told him I was joking, and he replied "I wasn't."

    So, I may be getting a Garmin(ish) for Christmas, with a side of guilt.  Worth it?  Maybe.  I'll let you know.

      Which one were you asking for? The 10 is really awesome and it's only $130.00.

           The 10.  In fact, when I went to the Philly Marathon Expo, I even mentioned a Timex that they had on sale for $65.  I don't want anything too fancy.  I just want to be able to log my time, mileage, and splits.  Maybe intervals once I get further into my training.

              If my husband went from NO MARATHONS, to we're going to X to do your marathon, he can change too.

                He has a problem with you running at all right? Didn't he try to discourage you from running when you first started out?

                EDIT: Yeah, i guess everyone else knows this and hence the title of your post. I was only lurking when you posted that issue. Well, good luck.

                  Hey, sounds like maybe he's realized that this IS something you're gonna stick with! Good for him for coming around to maybe being supportive. I hope you get the Garmin! Smile

                    Kay I think you are making progress and that is always a good thing!!!! And yeah for getting the running watch!

                    Tell him it could be worse. My hubby got me a trip from Canada to the Disney Princess half  in Feb for my Christmas gift,,,,,,,,,and it's a girls only trip so he's not even allowed to come!LOL

                    Of course maybe dont tell him....because then he might get a clue of what you could be asking for next year!!Big grin

                      DON'T TREAD ON ME

                        Thanks Kay. I read your OP without reading the responses.

                        I'll just say that first of all, you deserve and should expect  to be supported by your spouse in the things you want to do for yourself, not just your family. I'm assuming that you do a lot for your family as it is.

                        It would be more understandable if you'd told him you wanted to run a marathon rather than an 8k, bc marathon training requires not only a huge commitment of time but energy, and when you have a family that will definitely require your partner to assume a significant burden. Even then though, your partner should be willing to do this if they really care about you, and if in general you "pull your weight".

                        Personally, my strategy with my wife, who is a great wife, but for various reasons only selectively supportive of some things i do, is to not mention or bring up things i do that she doesn't support. Like if she didn't support my running, i would just run at times she wouldn't know about, and just never talk about it. But maybe that's a sneaky "guy thing".

                                I do not believe in the dh.  pitchers should bat, even though most can't.
