Good morning Pens!  Heading out for 3-4 in a bit.  Be back for personals in a bit.  Have a great day!

    Upcoming races:

Covenant Health Knoxville 5K 4/7/13 (and cheering on DH for his 1st Marathon!!)

Rock and Roll Chicago Half Marathon 7/21/13

Tower of Terror Ten Miler 10/5/13

I will post a full RR sometime this weekend, as we are heading to Boston as soon as I shower! But I just finished 5k #2 and PR!! I took off. 20 seconds according to the race clock, which I'm sure will mean official time was a little slower but I am still ecstatic about that since I didn't have my father encouraging me this time!! Clock time of 31.03 and I will see what the official time is later, no chip time in this race so it take a lol while for the results to be posted!

Completed my first half marathon 2:09:04!!!

Jack, I hope the race goes well today! I can’t wait to hear all about it and I hope you get a picture of those fun socks.  I wore fun socks when I ran this morning just to show support!  Have fun tonight too! And you started the thread perfectly.

Bin, ohh the poor little guy. I hope DS feels better soon!  Good luck with the HM!!

Gustav, I like the way you cross train! I LOVE food.  Oh Greek food, gourmet cupcakes, and wine… I’d be in heaven.  Good luck at the gym and I’m sorry about the funeral.

Awood, what a great November you had! Congratulations.  What is up next on your racing schedule?  You probably mentioned it to someone else previously but I missed it.

Jerry, cheers! I love the caption under your photo.

PADRunner, good luck with the boot camp and the mile.

Tweaky, I know you have been posting for a few days now but hi and welcome!  Great job on the run!
Liz, great job on the TM run this am.  I hope it’s a quiet day for you so you can get in your double.  I posted my concept for how I’m going to set up my training on Wednesday thread.  I don’t know if you saw it but when I have it penciled in on the calendar I’ll share more details.

Awood and Liz, we’ll be running our halves all fairly close to each other than. I’m running mine on March 17th

AFM- well I woke up and it was snowing! YAY! I love the snow.  I quickly got dressed and went out for 3.75 miles.  The first 3 sucked.  They were slow (mid 11’s I haven’t even run a long run that slow since August), my lungs felt like crap, and I just couldn’t understand how snow could do this to me.  Seriously, snow and I have a great relationship.  Snow ALWAYS makes everything better.  Then I thought, I get it snow I’m still recovering and bam my last .75 miles was at a 10:21 pace and my lungs only mildly rebelled near the end but I still could run through it.  Snow came through for me once again! Ahh, there is an end in sight to this stupid cold crap and most importantly, snow and I are on good terms again.

jlm - Enjoy the miles.  I think I'm going to take the dog with me today, as I continue my streak.

Kristi - Awesome day for a PR!!!  Can't wait for the RR.

Steph - Looks like you found my race plan!  LOL  I love Chicago.  So, I'm running the Chi Town Half!  I may actually run the Groundhog Day Half as well, but with no refunds, and the historical nature of weather on that day, I'm going to hold off on my registration.  I probably won't be at my peak for that one either.  I don't want to train specifically for a race that might not happen.  My big goal is the Monumental Marathon next November.  I want my first marathon to be AWESOME!!!  So, I'm working on getting used to running daily, and trying to get my base solidified around 50 mpw by the time I start putting together my training plan.

I LOVE It! I don't blame you for waiting on the Groundhog Day Half, I would too.  The half I'm doing in March is a goal race for me but my other goal race of 2013 is going to be the Marine Corps Marathon the end of October.  It looks like our halves will be fairly close (date wise) and so will our first marathons, haha. I'm building my base up to 40 mpw for the half and then after the half building my base up to 50 before I start marathon training too.  My first marathon will not be anything like Heidi's first marathon but I want it to be awesome too.  I don't want to hate it. Good luck with training!

OK, now that it's actually morning out west... Smile

Today I want to see what an 8:30 mile feels like.  I really haven't pushed myself pace-wise, since September, other than a fast finish now and then.  So I want to go out and hold a steady but faster pace and see what happens.  I was thinking 2 for warmup, 1@8:30, 0.5 recovery, 1@8:30, 1.5 cool down.  Probably on the TM just because my phone app and "current pace" are not friends.  And there is no lap button on my phone.

Gustav- Sounds like my kind of XT!  I'm sorry for your loss.

                Awood- Nice mileage!

                Jerry- Good morning!

                PAD- GL at boot camp!

                Tweaky- Enjoy the 6.4!

Liz- Glad to hear you're getting comfortable at the slightly faster pace!

Jen- I hope you're having a great run!

Kristi- Congrats on the PR!  You are so close to sub-30 now!

Steph- Hooray for snow!  I know that for me even walking in the snow takes a lot more out of me just because of the resistance.  So running would probably be tougher too.  I also wonder how much relaxing at the end helped you to improve your pace?  I know that I tend to tense up when I try to run fast on purpose, and that completely defeats the purpose.  But I'm still trying to figure out how to stay loose and go faster.

Mitch- Hope your 12 are going well!

Good luck to those (jack and dave) racing today! I just got back in town late night. Had to go to a funeral for my good friends 10 yr old dd. :-( I couldn't wait to get home and hug my kids. Life is precious I've only run once in 9 days (ITB and funeral)and hope to do an easy 3-4 later. I was woken last night by a Charlie horse cramp and I haven't had one of those since I started running 8 months ago. I can barely walk today so I hope my run stretches it out.

                  Return To Racing

Hehee my messy miles! I sure hope I get a nice shiny Garmin for Christmas!

During the week, I run inside on a track. Sometimes on the weekend I run on a trail that's a 3.6-mile loop. When I run through my neighborhood, I do an out and back. I walk to the main road and measure the distance to the next major street, using Google maps. My only even distance from is my 3-mile run. Then I do a 5.4, 6.4 or 13.4, : )

There’s probably a better system, but oh well…hopefully I get that watch, LOL

                    Brenda

I'm also  getting a Garmin for Christmas.  Do you have one in mind Brenda?

Zelanie, I hope the run goes well! 8:30 is close to what I was doing for intervals and I know we were pretty close to each other time wise, I think you'll rock it.  I can't wait to hear how it went.  The snow never really accumulated so I don't think it created resistance but I think you are right, relaxing helped me with the last .75.  I said I wasn't running for time today, just was going to run comfortable but I was getting frustrated that my comfortable pace is so much slower than where it used to be so I know I was tensing up.  When I finally relaxed and believed that it is what it is and that I'll get back there my pace dropped.

Steph - It sounds like we're on the same page.  I actually thought about the MCM, as a friend of mine offered free lodging.  But as for the mileage thing...yep.  I started running with the goal of running a marathon this November.  I was using a beginners program, and finally realized that without a base it would be a miserable experience.  I used the peak mileage of 42 miles to have a great HM.  Now, I want to keep my mileage around 40-42 until January first, and then start adding my quality work back in until the HM.  Then, I'll do some more base building, and start my Marathon training.  Wow, it's like we get our training tips from the same forum or something...lol  Oh, and yeah....mine won't be like Heidi's either.  I don't think very many people will have a first marathon like that.

Mitch - Enjoy the 12.  That's on of my favorite distances.  I don't know why.  It just feels right.

Zelanie - That sounds like a pretty good plan.  It does sound fun too.

Tracilynn - That's such a reality check.  Thank you for that.  I think we all forget sometimes that things like that can happen.  My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Jerry - I might be getting a Garmin.  I'm pretty sure Liz was hinting at getting me one...LOL

AFM, I just extended my streak (8 days / 47 miles).  I took my dog with me today, and we managed to cruise along just a hair over 10mm.  He looks tired.  I feel like my body is starting to adjust to having NO rest days...lol  My legs didn't feel quite as dead today.  I love running.

                        From the Internet.

Hi pens! Popping back in for personals when I'm on the computer again (blech have to make a figure for my boss and finish a presentation for Tuesday Sad ). Got in 3.4 miles/36 minutes in the snow this morning. Stuck to my easy pace perfectly and it was glorious. I usually hate winter, I think running will make it much less miserable for me Big grin DH told me this morning that he was a bit dehydrated and his shins hurt - he's not a runner at all, now I have to wonder if my inability to stay hydrated has contributed to my shin pain? I'm still feeling occasional twinges but it's neither tied to when I run, nor localized where the shin splints were last month. Making a better effort to drink more water this weekend.

                          Mmmmm...beer

                            Hey everyone!

Just put up my RR, 20:23 and 1st place AG!  I'm extremely happy. Smile

Hope everyone is having a great day!

                            Hey Doc

                            Feets don't fail me now

Brenday (Tweaky) - so since you're sticking aroung (YAY!) tell us a little bit more about yourself!!  I'm sorry if you already did and I missed it.  I seem to to recall you saying you're a reformed lurker but I'd love to know more about who you are and what you're training for!    Half the fun of this group is following people's journey's, I personally find it very motivational.

Jen - hope you had an easy 3-4!

Kristi - WOOT WOOT!! Congrats on the PR, girl!

Steph - I read your plan, thank you so much for posting it.  You have an excellent plan in place to get where you're going!  It's kind of killing me because I really want my first marathon to be Philly for a number of reasons but it's in November.  You and Awood are both ahead of me in prep and miles so I really don't think I can safely be ready by November (just to finish comfortably, not to race it).   But then I see you guys aiming for it and it makes me want to aim.    Instead of consciously planning on it, I'm going to find the time to increase my miles (hence my new 4:45am wakeup call a few days/week) because I only have hit >30mpw a couple times.

Mitch - hope the LR is fun and you hit 12!

Melanie - I can't wait to hear how that pace feels to you!  That's a pipe dream for me right now, 9:15 felt fast!

Traci - so sorry for your friend.  Nobody should ever lose a child.  Sad

Awood - great streak continues - how's your running club start up going?

Lauren - glad your 3.4 was so much fun!
