do you get a Xmas bonus? (Read 444 times)

Zelanie

Another government worker, so no.  My DH got a $100 bonus, mailed the day after Christmas.  I'm assuming they did some funky math so the check would be an even amount.

I was on a jury once for the county court.  I was juror #1 and for whatever reason they accidentally skipped me during voir dire and started questioning juror #2.  As soon as we got into the jury room the other jurors wanted to know WTF.  It was a good experience, and even had some excitement as the prosecutor's case pretty much fell apart around him during the trial, including calling a witness who ended up supporting the defense's case.

No Christmas bonus here.  I work for a broke ass county that actually had to borrow money to cover the regular payroll for the last two years.

Would that be Luzerne, by chance? If so, oy... my insurance agency just wrote that account. Hmm.

I get a longevity check in the summer that due to employee concessions, recently got cut 33%.  The amount paid is based on years served, so if I ever make it to 20 years (I won't so it's a pipe dream...but I am a dreamer remember?  Smile) I would be paid in full!

Ditto on wanting to do jury duty, without the cut in pay.  I so should have been a lawyer.

I got screwed because out of the 13 possibles, 4 were doctors or had suffered injuries during car accidents (this was a lawsuit for injuries during a car accident), one complained about back problems so she couldn't sit still for long periods (professional jury duty evader) and 2 had caused injuries in car accidents.  So, nobody could use any challenges on me.  Although I wonder what the plaintiff was thinking when he insisted on me.  I told him I had a trial the next day and he yelled: "but somebody can cover for you, right?"  I wanted to tell him: "how the fuck do I know?  I'm stuck here and not at the office," but it came out "I guess."  LOL.

          I had fun, though.

I love my job but I usually work 55-60 hours and my salary is 1/2 of what it could in private practice.  I'm sure MJ5 has a similar experience.

Everybody in my office, from receptionist to Executive Director, gets $ 500 for a Christmas bonus. They calculate it so that the $ 500 is what you get net after all taxes and withholdings have been deducted. We are closed for two weeks over the holidays and we always have a Christmas party the last day before we break. They hand out the bonuses then. It is one of my favorite things about my office.

I really miss the Christmas parties of employers past!  One in particular used to reserve the ballroom for our Christmas party at a five star hotel.  Talk about fun times, man were they!

These clowns I work for now don't do anything.

I am self employed. I have a home daycare. While nobody ever "tips" me the holiday bonus tip that ettiquite experts say you should do at the holidays, they do usually give me gift cards to eateries or sporting goods places. $25 x 3 sets of parents is very generous. I certainly don't expect it but it sure is nice to get! And I take several days off this time of year(24-26 & 31-1), so a bonus I see it is that I name my own vacation  days right now.

My hubs got a $350 holiday bonus($500 before taxes). That went to pay for our dog's vet bill. She nearly died from an intestinal blockage after Thanksgiving. That was a nice unexpected $900 vet bill we couldn't afford. But we couldn't not try to save her, she's family.

No bonus, and have never worked in a job where one was possible.  I do serve on a non-profit board and we always give our awesome employees a Christmas bonus, $500 to three full time people, and $300 to our equally awesome 3/5ths time person.

                          Smaller By The Day

I don't get a Christmas bonus, but I'd take it whenever they offered it.  I do get a giant turkey every year.

For those that think the taxes on a Christmas bonus are bad, you should try getting commissions.  They calculate withholding's as if I'm going to get that amount every week, which of course I'm not.  On a big projects you might end up with about half of what you're owed.

Like you, I also get gifts from clents and they are much appreciated. But I think that their secret goal is to fatten me up, as I seem to get only homemade cookes, sugar pies and Belgian chocolates. So sorry about your dog! Our cat had something similar and she almost died of starvation and dehydration. A two day stay at the vet and $600 later, and she was home again in much better condition. It's been 2 years now and she's our cute fat cat again. I would have borrowed the money if it hadn't been available at the time.

That's pretty funny. I'll just keep it our little secret that they have a hard time paying government employees, and keep my fingers crossed that you keep getting paid and we get paid too. Smile
