I think I'm going to cry/check out the inside of my leg! (Read 779 times)

From the Internet.

My follow-up appointment with the doctor isn't until next week, but I broke into the MRI image CD to see it for myself. To my recently-Google-trained eye it looks like a pretty obvious stress fracture Sad So bummed. What do I do while it heals?!?!

I'm sorry. Injuries suck, do they know what happened to cause it? Can you do anything about it in the future so it doesn't happen again?

Your doc probably has recommendations of what you can do. Focus on upper body? Core? Yoga? Swimming(unless you have a cast)? Knitting? Lol.......maybe not knittingWink

I think it was just too much/too fast too soon, and it didn't hurt like a traditional stress fracture because of the location (that image is the back of the tibia) so I kept running on it Sad No pain while running, no pain while bearing weight, no pain while jumping up and down, so I assumed I was safe.

I might take up aquajogging, at least then I'll feel like I'm running Sad

I don't know how to read MRIs so I wouldn't worry about it until you see your doctor, but I would not run until then as the MRI seems to show something there (I just won't assume it's an SFx because I'm not a medical professional).  I hope you heal soon and if it was too much too soon, learn from that and start slowly when you're given the go ahead.

            Lauren,

I'm so happy that you went to the doc and got this checked out!  Think of the further damage you've avoided by going in!  I'm sure you will be on the path to healing in no time!

I just ordered a bunch of swimming gear. Retail therapy helps a little Sad

Damaris - unfortunately I do science and I'm already somewhat familiar with reading MRIs, so with the information available on the internet I'm 99% sure that it is one Sad I will indeed be starting back veeery slowly whenever I'm given the green light by the doc.

Truth. And the winter's not such a bad time to be forced to rest.

                running is bad for you

Complete bummer.  That does look pretty ominous (not that I'm a doctor but I have had multiple MRIs done myself).

Rest and swim - good advice.  And there is so much good swimming stuff to buy!! Wink

Uggghhhh...I am sorry.  This just stinks.

That definitely sucks, very sorry to hear it.  Hope it heals up quickly!

I'm an RN studying to be a Nurse Practitioner. It does look like a fracture to me. I'm not a doctor obviously, but if it were me, I'd definitely be calling that doctor. Sorry your injured. Coming off one myself, I know how crummy it feels. Hope you heal up quickly.

                        Running is my mental-Ctrl-Alt-Del.

                          What's wrong with knitting?

                          Will run for scenery.

Wow, bummer about your leg - if it is a SFX.  Definitely check with the doc before deciding for sure, though.

If you have a great sense of humor, I think you'll like aqua-jogging.  You get to look like a total dork and have your head up so you can see everyone looking at you in horror/delight/pity.  Actually, its kinda fun (no getting sweaty !) but you will look like a dork.  Embrace it.

As for swimming, if you're a bit on the analytical/nerdy side (you did mention science, no ?)  there's a great book by Sheila Taormina (Olympic medalist) on swimming form.  More specifically, she wrote a whole book just about Freestyle, because she was tired of seeing people (especially triathletes) working so hard and swimming so poorly.  I read it (a few times) interspersed with pool workouts and it helped me a lot.

Again, sorry to hear about your injury.  As much as it sucks to not run, getting  properly healed is the most important thing for you to do at this point.

Sorry, just trying to make you laugh and feel a little better.  Injuries suck!  I've had 4 knee surgeries.  Lauren, if you have access to an indoor pool, get one of those aquajogger floatation belts and do some non-impact running in deep water.  It's not the same as running, but it simulates actual running and will also help keep you in shape so when your doc does clear you to run again, you will have a quicker time of getting back to where you were with your running pre-injury.   Man, I've done a LOT of pool running over the years!
