The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the caommon benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

Go Mitch! Waiting to read all abt your first.
6M done. Alarm goes off at 6am and snoozed it. Managed to do 6 while kids are napping in afternoon.
17 days to go and 80M to clock to meet 2013 goal.
From the Internet.
Yay, go Mitch!
Got my reflective vest thingy in the mail yesterday - it's the Amphipod one with super obnoxious flashing LED lights, no getting hit by a car for this girl! Excited to try it out, I might head out early tomorrow morning just so I can wear it :P
1-1.5 miles on the mill and weights planned for this afternoon, but I need to wake up and maybe start a load of laundry first.

I was looking at one of those by Asics. Not quite ready to pull the trigger on it yet, but I was looking....

Return To Racing
Snowy Good Morning. Track day. Waiting until afternoon when it won't be so crowded.
Go Mitch !!!
The weather looks about perfect for Mitch's marathon today. It's 48 with a little drizzle. It was raining pretty hard at 6am but cleared off. The wind seems a tad breezy Here where I am though. I live about 15 miles from the marathon. I plan to go up there at the 23 mile mark or the finish line. Depends on traffic and which roads are closed. Woohoo! Go Mitch!

Good morning Penguins!
Got back from a 2 hour run this morning. I mentioned earlier this week about warming up. It takes my core 1-2 miles to warmup. My hands take 3-4 miles - I actually run with them in the pockets of my jacket until the 3 or 4 mile mark. Toes don't seem to warm up. Well for today all was as usual but my feet stayed warmer because I wore my Experia socks by Thor-lo, which are a little heavier. Then at the 90 minute mark my hands got cold again - it was weird because it came on kind of fast. I don't know if it was a metabolism change or if the gloves were getting wet from sweat - they don't really feel wet. Do any of you notice changes with longer distances? I did have a piece of toast with honey before the run.
5K Specialist
Have a good race Mitch.
AFM - Did nothing yesterday. I went to a Christmas party after I got home. I will try to get in some exercises and stationary bike today if I have time.
Personal Bests:
800M - 2:38 (5/28/13) | 1 Mile -5:54 (5/28/13) | 3K - 11:55 (12/29/12) | 2M - 13:00 (12/1/12) | 5K - 20:00 (4/12/13) | 13.1M - 1:37:24 (2/3/13)
Rock it, Mitch! Hooray!
I'm planning 6 miles today. Another longest distance ever for me as I train for my first 10K. I know I can do it, though.
Call me Ray (not Ishmael)
Gustav, my normal cycle in a run is cold-warm-cold, and the cold at the end does seem to come on fairly quickly. I also think that I have Reynaud's, so if it's too cold I run with mittens and hand warmers. I start with my hands all bunched up until I warm up, then move them into the mesh side as I get warmer, but towards the end of the run I am cold again and go back to bunched up hands. For me, it's amazing how if I can keep my hands warm, the rest of me doesn't feel so bad. With this last cold snap, I ran outside in temps down to 18F, and think I could go into single digits with one more layer.

I'm in on that. Go Hog!
I am going out to do a very easy 2 or 3 miles. Later we have a wedding to attend (ugh) and DS is coming home for three weeks.
Team TJ
Go Mitch!!!
Hopefully, you're done by now.
Running for TJ because he can't.
