How far I've come. (Read 119 times)

Today is the one year anniversary of when I started running.  I've never run before as a form of exercise.  I was in the military 26 years ago, so I did do small amounts of running when forced.  Anyway, I was about 3 months into my "losing weight and getting healthy" resolution from last year when a friend talked me into doing a 5K.  The 5K was in May, so I thought I'd give it a try.  I was still heavier than I wanted to be to start running, but I told myself I'd take it slow and pay attention to any pains that might be more than my body complaining about moving again after 20+ years.  I ran (using that word loosely here) that 5K in 38:59.  Today, I did my 4 mile easy run in 41:13.  I'm still 15lbs away from where I want to be weight wise, but I never really thought I'd ever be able to run the way I do today.  I know I'm not fast by most standards, but I don't care.  I can move my body longer distances than most of the people I know.  It's simply amazing to me what we can do with persistence and determination.

Grats on your progress thus far, and much more going forward.  It's great when you have those moments of realization that you have come so far over a period of time.

Yay you! I still marvel sometimes at how far or how well I can cover distances I once thought were impossible! Keep on truckin' sistah!
