Friday Penguins - We have Free Admission Today Only! (Read 208 times)

Hey, I'm up and already did 5.02 easy miles. I dressed a little different tonight and it was much better once I got warmed up. Getting ready for work, last night shift this week.

Lauren, I can't remember where I read it, but it talked about the need to "focus" on strengthening the calf muscle. When I finally started running after my shin splints, I did an lot of stretching and calf raises(before and after running), and really focusing on the back of the shin. This really helped me, along with doing Doug's shin routine for awhile. Mine were so bad that I couldn't hardly walk the next day, and I ended up going to dr for an xray bc of fearing a SFX. I know exactly what caused mine, and it was a hard lesson to learn, but I will NEVER do that again.

Margo, I'll respond to your HM plan thread over the weekend, I'm doing the RH plan for the second time, and I've learned a thing or two that I can share.

So, the mental aspect is real, sister.  Work on it!

      Thank you for that!

Also, Margo, I think the "ranges" for my long run sounds like a good place to start.  Next week, I'll plan for somewhere between 8.5 and 10, and see what happens.  I do usually have good runs when I "allow" myself to stop early- and often I end up running extra!

Zelanie- For this round of training, I have been a little more lax with my run distances and have had "open ended runs" where I would set out for 3 but could go up to 5 if I was feeling it. I ran over 4 every time. For some reason having a bail out option in my mind helps me mentally deal with distances that used to or still do scare me. ....but maybe I should stop these open ended runs....because the week I did 3 runs over 4 miles without "really" planning on it is the week my ITBS struck so maybe I'm not the best example haha....

        PRs:   5K- 28:16 (5/5/13)      10K- 1:00:13 (10/27/13)    4M- 41:43 (9/7/13)   15K- 1:34:25  (8/17/13)    10M- 1:56:30 (4/6/14)     HM- 2:20:16 (4/13/14)

        Sloooow.

If you move to Miami, you'll have Summer all year long. Angry

Awesome 5 recovery miles, pushups, pullups, and situps.  Nice run.

Yeah, I don't think me and Miami would get a long! It's bad enough here in South LA, but we do seem to get some kind of a break in January/February. It's been pretty cold here the last week, upper 40's during the day and mid to upper 30's at night. Tuesday is forecast for the 70's again though, lol.

                Hi, FreeSoul!

Coralie, I wish we would get 40s.  We actually got 40s this year (4 hours, LOL) but it's not normal.  I wouldn't mind the 90F and 98% humidity if I were to have a reprieve of it during the Winter.
