Burning fat for fuel instead of sugar (Read 108 times)

When ever I hear the term, "burning fat", I picture a grease fire.

That's my chubby legs running together. The other day a group of dogs were chasing me say, "bacon bacon bacon."

Leave lily alone. It's not her fault. It's those damn French Canadian parents of hers.

On topic, fat vs. sugar is an interesting topic for sure.

As far as ultra running though, all of the "fast" ultra runners I know rely primarily on sugary substances for fuel on long runs.

Lots of gels, Heed, Gatorade, etc.  the other items can be nice during an ultra to give some variety, but sugar is king.

The body simply cannot convert those other things into fuel quickly enough during most ultra events. sugar is the instant pick me up.
