NRR - unless you want to run in Texas, of course. Anyone need a job and willing to move to Texas? (Read 81 times)

Barking Mad To Run

I seem to remember a similar boon in the Longhorn state during the 80's.

I took my first trip there last year while driving dear daughter #3 to Houston and the one thing that stuck with me was how nice and welcoming everyone was.

It was universal no matter what town or city we were in, just very nice people....well, at least the ones I interacted with.

Yeah, the oil boom and then that particular one went bust after a while.

This one seems to be more industry, technology, etc.  Here in San Antonio, things seem to have gone crazy in the biomedical technology field, etc.  All kinds of stuff like that mushrooming around here.  Amazon.com also just opened here a huge processing/shipping warehouse, Microsoft just opened a huge tech center/call center so, of course, their competitor Apple had to open something here too.  We also have 5 Fortune 500 companies located here; and 5 military bases which, of course, require all the administrative support that goes with it, along with umpteen contracting jobs for building, admin support, and various other services.    It's all good - except for the traffic, which is now crazy because the city has grown so much.

Can we tell people to stop moving to Texas? I liked the Dallas area a lot better in the 70's and 80's than now. Crowded roads, freeways are turning into tollways, and I have to drive a long way to get away from the city now.

As far as Houston is concerned, I don't know why anyone would want to live there. It is way too humid. My ex-boss is now the CFO for a company in Houston. She offered me the role of VP of Tax for her company and I turned her down without even visiting the company. There is no way I would ever move to Houston.

What is so bad with native Texans? Aside from the fact that they've decided a long time ago to create their own language, is there anything else that is wrong with them?

Nope.  All the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans cheerleaders are lovely people.

The Bills' home games in September always seem to sell out first, probably because there's a chance that the cheerleaders won't be wearing parkas and wind pants.
