I am considering a pair of Newtons that are on clearance on Running Warehouse. Who has some? Likes and dislikes? Yes, I have read the online reviews, but I trust the opinions of you people much more than those of others. Thanks in advance.

I ran my last 5 marathons in them (Performance Distance U) and I do all my training LRs in them as well (I rotate 3 pairs). The Distance U offers some light stability, which I need. I guess they are good for me since I never really think about my feet during my marathons and I always finish them with no blisters, discomfort, etc... For shorter and faster distances, I use Asics Trainers and Racers.

I am on my third pair of Distance. They are light and feel so nice on my feet. I don't even notice the lugs on the front and it ddin't take me long to get used to them. i kind of used them as guides for my form.

        Good luck.

If you get them, make sure to gradually transition over to them.  I did too much too soon in Newton's last fall and injured my achilles.

Nothing but good things for me as well.

I switched gradually over to them in June and full time in October. I haven't had any issues with injury or ill effects from them. I have 2 pairs of Distance ones(about to retire one pair after about 600ish miles) and 1 pair of Terras that I use for bad weather & off road use. Switching back and forth doesn't seem to be an issue, but I notice the lightness of going from the heavier Terras to the very light Distance ones.

The lugs are interesting when you first get them but you soon get used to it.

            Not quite right

I got pair that I I am finally working in right side feels normal left can feel the lug but that is about 10 miles of walk/run on the treadmill. So far I like them but will see once I am back to full run on the road.

I'm clueless.  What's the thing about Newtons?  You guys are making it sound like they are minimalist or something.

There's a lot of good info on the Newton website - they aren't really minimalist, in that they are more like "traditional" shoes over something like vibrams, but they have lugs at the front that forces you into a forefoot/midfoot strike.  They do have a smaller heel-to-toe drop than traditional shoes - I think my Gravitas are 4mm.

I really like mine.   But, they aren't for everyone, and you do have to work up to them if you haven't been in low drop shoes.

Not so much minimalist as forefoot strike encouraging. Say, for those runners who don't want a heel strike(for whatever reason) but need something that still has cushion yet makes you seek out the forefoot area(feedback, like minimalist shoes give you with feeling pavement/terrain).  I was minimal before(barefoot & Vibram 5s) but on longer runs, my forefoot would get hot from friction & repeated landing in the same spot. But I was worried cushioned shoes would make me digress into old habits, which had caused me injury. The lugs on the Newtons keep me honest, or at least more honest. You can still heel strike or land however you want but it feels weird since the lugs are raised slightly from the rest of the shoe.

They aren't minimal. They have drop. They have cushion. But they are different from any other shoe out there currently.

                          Team TJ

I've been running in Sir Isaacs for just over a month now, Have about 120 miles n them.  I used to have a minor twinge in the outside of my right knee, some occasional shin soreness, and an occasional soreness in my ankle.  Since I started in the Newtons all that IS GONE.  I've even increased my mileage in them.

I didn't really follow the transition instructions very well.  That soreness didn't last very long.

                            I am a Newton Runner!

Running for TJ because he can't.

I didn't need any transition period as well. I just jumped right into them. They felt right. Never had any pain anywhere. Been wearing them for 2 years, now.

I went ahead and bought a pair of Gravity 2011 from Running Warehouse. They were $89 but I found a coupon code for 15% off. BONUS!  For $76 and a great return policy, I figure they are worth a try. I should have them Tuesday. Thanks for all the advice.
