Daisymae - that's part of my story as well.  My mother was active when young (she trained to be a PE teacher) but 5 kids and a very hard life meant that I only knew her as an obese smoker who got almost no exercise at all.  My father was a lot more active but we never did anything together as family activity and he was out of the house by the time I was 12.  Instead as a child of the 50's and 60's, we spent all day running around the neighborhood, swimming, biking, walking, playing games outdoors.  Three of us children became hikers and campers, though I'm the only one of the three that is still active. My oldest brother goes from very obese to gym fit on approximately alternate year cycles.  Seeing what depression and chronic illness can do, I'm very determined to stay as active as I can.
