since it is short, I would just forgo a training plan and work on miles miles miles...look at your weaknesses this past race and focus on those. 1. Milage 2. Maybe start adding progression into some, not all runs, where you run 5 miles at your normal easy pace and then kick a little harder on the last mile (this will help in your next 10K mentally so your not hating life at the end....hating life as much). 3. Maybe do some short hill bounding at the end of 1 or 2 runs, where you would bound and focus on your push off, knee lift, spring and arm motions...like 2-4 @ 10 seconds. Or just find a training plan for 6 weeks! I have a hot chocolate run coming up in Feb....easy PR for me, 1st 15K race.

Thanks for the tips! Yeah I definitely want to get a training run of at least 6 miles for the next one. That's the one thing I don't like about the Higdon Novice plans. While I think they are good for beginners and first races at new distances, not running the full distance doesn't do much for confidence, at least for me. I didn't like having to worry about covering the distance. I automatically run faster during races than I do in training (it is a RACE afterall), but running both faster and farther than I'm used to made me feel like I needed to be very conservative in the first few miles to assure I didn't blow up. Even though my first 2 miles were actually ridiculously fast for me, I THOUGHT I was running conservatively at least. And yeah, I could really feel that extra .7 mile.... 5.5, the distance of my longest training run, was about when I felt my gas running out. The hills sound like a good idea too because I know my next 10K course has some rolling hills, as it is in a park I am familiar with. Thank you! Don't you love the default PRs of new distances? Haha

Original race plan was to run conservatively for the first 3-4 miles and then try to pick it up a bit. But based on what I can gather from the few times I checked in on my elapsed time the first 2 miles were the fastest, though not by a ton. Whoops.... the best laid plans I guess!! I SWEAR I thought I was running 11:30mm TOPS....not 10:20! Maybe once I get a Garmin for Christmas (hopefully Santa comes through!) I will get better at pacing

Wow- sounds like you had a *great* run- congratulations! I was terrified during my entire 10K that I wouldn't make it to the finish. Running that strongly for the first 5 miles is fantastic!
PS- Now you need a 5K to sign up for as well because you know you can PR there also!
