I almost felt like an extrovert.

Being an extrovert to the 25th power, this made me laugh. But alas, even introverts act as extroverts within their inner circle so it's in you bro. lol

I wanted to read this in one shot without distraction and just got the opportunity to do that, very nicely done and executed! That finish-line pic is way cool, hopefully it gets framed and mounted in the highest quality your wallet can afford.

This race report is of high order but is not complete without the elevation profile so allow me:

        I AM running!!!

Just awesome, congratulations! Thank you for sharing.

The mircle isn't that I finished. The mircle is that I had the courage to start.

            Thank you, everyone.

Moth - the GMP stuff was nearly always at the end of a run.  I'd say a "meat and potatoes" day would be 10 miles with 7-8 at whatever felt comfortable, and then the remainder at pace.  Less frequent would be a half-hour or hour at pace, the rest easy.  Sprinkled in were occasional faster-than-GMP workouts.  A favorite of mine when preparing for a 5K is 2 sets of 5x(2min 5K pace, 1 or 2 min easy).

The LRs were there, including a few tough ones, but I think the real benefit came from the sheer volume of race pace.  When it was time to do it for real, it didn't feel fast -- it felt normal.

Lauren - a 2:3x sure would be nice, but an even bigger PR has to be kept totally abstract right now while I'm recovering, lol.  Maybe for Fall.

Rick - thanks, that might be the mythical good race photo. Smile

Jay - took me a while to get to this, but I knew it would take some time to get through & wanted to be able to savor it.

I had know idea when we FE'd last winter in Buffalo that I was rubbing elbows with a celebrity!

Excellent report as always; totally different to get the racing perspective of an elite.

Not much else I can add about the awesomeness of the performance, and the rock-solid evenness of the splits.

But I don't know if it was stated how much of a PR this was for you - something like 12 minutes, wasn't it? For someone already at that level, to lop that much time off is just out of this world.

              Congrats & enjoy!

Late to reading your RR but well worth it.  A gracious winner and gracious runner along the course.  As a volunteer at a number of local races in metro Atlanta.  I've never heard a runner in the lead pack acknowledge a course monitor encouraging them.  YOU made a difference for them.  They will always remember that guy from Buffalo who won the marathon and who still took the time to respond to them.

That is so fantastic that you got to experience really racing a marathon, from being a part of the lead pack, to the bicycle escort, to the finish line and interviews!  That's incredible.  What a great memory and experience.  Huge congratulations to you.

And I might have to work on getting more sleep.  Smile  I still think you need to bring your finish photo to the Y and just show it to anybody who is vibing you for treadmill time.
