Early in my running career on a goal 5k - I downed a quad shot espresso 15 minutes before.
I am pretty sure the elevated heart rate and perception of the world moving slower didn't help my PR attempt.

NOT beneficial for me since I can't stand the stuff. I'd puke if I had coffee before a run.

I get my caffeine from diet soda and have it an hour before most runs. Too soon before a run and I have stomach issues during it. I have no clue if I run better with it or without.
I always drink coffee in the AM but never later in the day. No coffee before my morning run has a negative effect. I should try a cup before an evening run and see what happens. In year's past I would a pop caffeine pill before races.

No more marathons
Hummm! Coffee? First cup within 5 minutes of waking up each morning. Then 4 or 5 cups in this bad boy
before my usually noon day run. Then two or three more in the afternoon.
Nah, coffee doesn't do much for me. I can take it or leave it.
