FYI Yesterday in my duathlon, there was a woman riding a Townie. YES an Electra Townie http://www.electrabike.com/Bikes/townie-bikes-electra Her run was so strong it didn't really matter what she rode in the bike. She was out there having a good time and did pretty well in fact.

I've seen someone do a sprint triathlon on a unicycle, do what's fun to you.
Its much easier to sell a nicer bike then a cheap bike though so its not like you'll be out the money if you change your mind. If someone is going to buy a cheap bike they want it new knowing its cheap. If someone is buying a nicer bike they are more willing to buy used knowing how expensive they can be.
