Ugh, that is one of my pet peeves, runners who wear all black at night.  Of course, i was hit by a bicycle in broad daylight so...

My heavy gear is black. Black pants & black jacket with black hood. My shoes are bright though and I wear an Amphipod reflective singlet over my jacket. And I have a headlamp and a blinky red ass light.

So you can see me. It is the dog walkers that wear all black with black dogs that need to get a clue.

It can be a little pricey, but I definitely recommend the Brooks Nightlife line for nighttime visibility.  I picked up a jacket in October which is wonderful- extremely visible (purple but with a giant white reflective stripe), extremely lightweight, great fit, nice details (like a 'zipper garage') and folds up into its own pocket.

Yes, we have one of these in our neighborhood.

She runs in the early morning and evening dark, all in black with a small flashlight that maybe helps her see the road, but does nothing to help the car coming up behind her, down a very busy street, where the speed limit is 50 but cars drive 60,  right side, with traffic, when there is not only a perfectly good sidewalk right next to the bike lane she uses, but also a nice multi use trail right next to the sidewalk.  Wearing headphones.

I'm shocked she had a headlamp. I keep seeing a runner (or maybe it's more than one, who knows) wearing all black in my neighborhood with no lights. It's a safe area (Damaris, I don't know how you do that) and the place I see her run has a side street every 1/8th of a mile on a busy road. Not smart.

Some of my winter gear is dark, but I got myself a nice little amphipod blinky thing that I clip to my head band. I'm considering knuckle lights, but it's so rare I run outisde at night, I'm not sure if I should go for them or not.

I actually live in a safe area, but you have to remember that Miami is, after all, among the Top cities with highest crimes, so what I consider safe might be unsafe to others.  But I feel very safe in my neighborhood.

The Knuckle lights are amazing.  I have blinded cars coming my way.  Especially those that do rolling stops....

That does not sound amazing.  That sounds, perhaps, bad.

It's not on purpose.  I'm using my Knuckle Lights and they light up to 1/2 a mile away.  Or is it the rolling stoppers that sound bad?  Nobody here stops at the stop signs or at the red lights either.

I pretty much wear all black/gray at night, unfortunately (it does have bits of reflective material, but not that much honestly). I'm fixing to change that. But at least I have my knuckle lights. When a car comes I make sure I swing them so they are directed at the oncoming traffic. Most of the time they drive completely into the other lane so no doubt they are seeing me. We are talking city/village streets 25 mph zones here.. so nothing too busy or fast.

But I'm buying some better stuff as soon as I can. I'll check ito that brooks nightlife gear.

I once had an elderly couple, dressed all in dark colors, who was walking their dog early in the AM stop me to tell me that my blinky lights bothered their dog.  Um.....okay.  At least I can be seen.  I haven't seen them yet this winter, my schedule has change a bit, and maybe theirs has too.  But they would really be bothered by me now, I have doubled my blinky lights.   I have elastic arm bands that have two on each arm.  One facing forward, and one facing back.  I want to be SEEN!

The Knuckle lights make dogs go crazy.  As in super crazy.

                          Go figure

I think I do worse in broad daylight, when perfectly visible. Today, I was running into traffic, then switched over to the right side of the road to make a right turn. A school bus passed me, 20 feet from the light, then intentionally ran his right side against the curb so I had nowhere to go. He got the bird (children weren't on board yet). 3 miles later, I went to go straight through an intersection because a car was just going straight through it in the other direction. Then, he turned his car directly into me. He got the use your blinker motion. 2 miles later, a car turning right, never looked right, and pulled out right into me. He got the look both ways signal.

Basically, I feel like it's just on us not to get hit. I guess I could run on more sidewalks, but they're not plowed and it's not mandated here. So darn it, share the road!
