DaveP - Thanks! I had wanted to DNF a few steps in, but it was impossible because of the crowd. I then didn't want to "waste" the pain of the first four miles by dropping out. I did get to experience another side of racing events, though - I stopped at two water stops, ate some chomps, AND had a cookie. The food and water was great for my spirits.
LRB - Some people just don't seem to get it. :/ I took about six weeks off, but tried running once a week or so (a couple minutes each time, tops) and my half a month ago probably didn't help. I think (core) strength and flexibility is a big problem for me. I lost a lot of it post-surgery and haven't put in the effort to get it back.
