Winter Running Contest Week 4.5 (Read 172 times)

Here's the link to this week's results thread over at RWOL:  http://bit.ly/TWgqnU

How's it going for everyone?  Winter pretty much refuses to really start for me.  We get a little snow and it melts.  Then it rains for 3 days.  Temps have been downright balmy for this time of year (mid 30's).

That is how it has been here too.  We have had some snow but no accumulation then we get rain.  They are forecasting some actual snow accumulation later this week. We will see.

It's been nearly the same everyday it seems, 40-50 during the day, 20-30 overnights. A slight wind but dry. Warmer than normal but dry is pretty much Nebraska lately. I think to get a multiplier for precip will be rarity for me, but I think I'm in the right division for temps. Only reason I am doing well points wise is because I run a lot of miles right now and am building for full marathon in May. No treadmill.

We're getting a bunch of fresh snow today.  I did a 10.25 mile run in 10 degrees F yesterday.  I love winter running.

Yuck to those who are getting rain on top of their snow.  That makes for slick & messy roads.  I hope you get some fresh powder for xmas!

I just logged my points for today and realized that I've only had one run in single digit temps. I have been running on the TM a bit more this year for convenience because a couple days a week I am running right before a strength class, and I don't like having to change from my outdoor running stuff into shorts.

20,000 miles behind me, the world still to see.

No single digits yet for me, and only a couple in the teens. Today's feel like temp was 24° (actual temp just over freezing) with rain. Cold, wet, yuck. I'd rather run in snow.

              Not if it makes sense.

We've been having lots of rain this winter, which is good for points.  Last year was much drier.  Saturday's 16 miler was done in rain and wind with a feels like temp of 32, so ended up with a lot of points on that one!

My long run this weekend was through ice, slush and rain/sleet. The coldest run for me was 6 degrees so far. I don't get out there more than 3 times per week, but when I do I usually get some good points! I know I am not even close to competitive in this contest, but I highly doubt I would want to run through the winter without it.

From my experience the best way to rack up points is to just be consistent. As the winter drags on all those low point runs add up. Besides, then you hit spring ready to go :-)
