Return To Racing
I'll have a blood test this week, so I'll watch for it. Don't remember the Dr. bringing it up before.
3.5 for Streak Day #6. Much nicer out today (31*) and I actually dressed appropriately (only 2 layers).
I really hope I notice a difference in energy levels (while running!) after supplementing. I was reading a pfitz article and he likes his runners to have Ferritin levels in the 60s
here's an article about ferritin and runners

According to him I'm "dangerously low" and should be on liquid iron. It also says low ferritin levels correlate with increased injuries and I've been injured a ton.

Traci
Team TJ
2 miles after work because it's the 2nd.
I thought about matching miles to the day for the rest of the month. That sounds really good but I don't think I'm prepared for what the 31th would bring. It would be one helluva monthly miles PR.
Running for TJ because he can't.

I just read yesterday's thread and saw your ferritin was at 10? Mine was at 21 when my hair started falling out
I can. I will. I am.
Yeah, I've heard a theory that running is basically sort of hard on the red blood cells, that it tends to force more immature cells into circulation. Since I'm a singer who doesn't run, maybe that explains my lack of anemia!
HsM - and anyone who'd like to answer - one of the things I'm reworking with my trainer is my breathing; years ago I was part of a group that gave fencing lessons at Renaissance Faires and because I wore a corset while exercising, I got into the habit of chest breathing (as opposed to belly breathing). My trainer mentioned that singers are great at controlling their breathing and while I could Google it, I thought I'd ask if you have any advice on breathing under exertion (not just "keep doing it" )
Penguin Power!
You ladies are making me think that I should have my ferritin tested!
Jerry - it is unlikely that you have iron problems because you aren't losing vast quantities of blood on a monthly basis ;-)
Upcoming Races: Run as One 4M (4/24) * Japan Run 4M (5/8) * Brooklyn Half (5/21)
Traci - definitely get a doctor's input as to how much iron you need. Even at low levels, too much iron can constipate you badly. At higher levels you can have real problems if you take too much.
I have a TON of hair even with a ferritin of 10.
I took iron during all my pregnancies and never had issues (constipation) ha. I'm not afraid of prunes or prune juice if I have to.
I just did intervals at the gym. 6X 800s at goal 5k pace (9:31 mm for me) with 2 min recoveries plus 1 mile wu and 1/2M cd. So 4.5M total.
OK, Traci, I take 130 mg (two 65 mg tablets) of ferrous sulfate. Then on the label is says "65 mg equivalent to 325 mg ferrous sulfate" And on the nutrition facts it says that one tablet is 361% of my daily value.
I've got a headache now
