Thanks!  I thought it was a costume, but I might have seen Violet...lol

Congrats Awood, fun reading your report.

Those races where no one is lined up in the right place are frustrating, well done making the most of it.

Way to pick off the "blueberries".... what, no Violet Beauregarde?

      You Rang?

NIce race and nice time!  I love the ritualistic spreading of the blueberries.  I've never been to a race that starts with a prayer.  The national anthem?  Yes.  Prayer  Nope.

Also, I like your writing style and organization.  An overall good report!

        Love the Half

Here is an idea I got from Kara Goucher you can try after non goal 5K's.  Your legs are already primed to go hard so why not let them?  As soon as you can breathe again, go back onto the course.  Do sets of 800 meters @ 5K pace with 800 meter recoveries.  You can get in 5 of them and you'll gain some added fitness from doing them on tired legs.

Interestingly, your time is almost to the second what my time was in my first 5K - 23:37.

          Short term goal: 17:59 5K

          Mid term goal:  2:54:59 marathon

Long term goal: To say I've been a runner half my life.  (I started running at age 45).

I had to finish my run when I got home.  The parade followed us on to the course.  You go out in the right two lanes, and come back on the other side of the road past the parade...lol

Awood, I can't believe I haven't read this yet. Congrats on the PR! Which also happens to be my PR, 23:36, can you believe it? I really like blueberries, maybe next year we can have a showdown, or maybe we need to save it for the Penguin thread, lol! I cannot wait to see how you do in the full. I don't think mine will be anywhere near yours. Stupid PF!! We definitely need to work out something so we can run together, something longer than a 5k too! Your journey is truely amazing and I cannot wait to meet you one day.

Thanks Mitch!  I'm having a blast, and I definitely think that we need to run a race together.  The Blueberry Festival has a 15k too if you really want to stomp the blueberries...lol  I'd really like to find a quirky destination half marathon though too.  I should know more about my contract with work next month.  That makes it easier to plan.  I was hired to rebuild the territory.  So far so good.
