I get my Smartwools at Sierra Trading Post. Makes the price more reasonable that way. Anyway, they won't really shine until you run in some wet, cold weather. They magically keep my toes nice and warm ever after a dunking in a puddle of melt water.
I just checked the forecast, and I should have freezing temps, rain and snow next week. I just won't have the sock :-(

running is bad for you
I love smartwool. Must be a fluke on the pair you got.
HOWEVER, we just tried some Darn Tough socks - granted I haven't run in them but they are awesome so far. AND they guarantee you won't bust through them - guaranteed for life!

I like Smartwool socks for everyday use, but I would never run in them. I got a free pair of their running socks at a race once, and I had the same issue that you mentioned with the seam. If I don't have flat seam socks & make sure every little bit of lint or debris is out of my shoes, it bugs me the whole time I'm running. If you have a Ross near you, you can usually find some great socks for running there. I got a 5 pack of Saucony socks recently for $2.99 & love running in them.
not bad for mile 25
I've been using a couple of pairs of Smartwool socks for a few months, and they feel great, and smell fine, even after more than one run. Still, it seems that quality may be somewhat spotty. There are other wool sock manufacturers out there.

Cozy and warm, yes. But I felt like they were strangling my toes when I ran in them. I'll save them for ice fishing. I run in thinner socks even in the winter time.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.
You gonna eat that?
You can also find some good deals on wool socks at Marshalls or TJ Maxx. They had SmartWool and Darn Tough among others when I was there last.
Update:
Still no socks, but was asked to write a review in exchange for a discount on my next order. I wrote the review. Not sure there will be a next order.
I figured the next email I got from them would be stating that they either received my return, or shipped the new pair. I'm still running in my cheap Puma and Champion C9 socks from brick and mortar stores in packs. It's cold, and they're doing just fine.

My first pair of SmartWool socks arrived in the mail today. I hope they don't unravel!!!

I started a blog about running :) Check it out if you care to
I emailed socksaddict today after writing my review. I just got an email letting me know that they will ship tomorrow. Could be a coincidence.

I love me some Smartwool but I have noticed their newer stuff doesn't hold up as well. I have socks that I still wear all winter long(4 pairs I bought 8 years ago) that are still going strong and yet my newer pairs that are the same model but shorter and newer have bald spots in places. And my newer running socks have bald areas too after just a few months but yet my older running socks look brand new(running everyday and doubles, I needed more pairs).
I dunno if it's the wool or the QC, but the newer stuff isn't as good. I know I won't be buying Smartwool anymore. What I have seen recently doesn't make me happy.
The new style Smart wool (came out this year) has no seams in the ultra light model. They are wonderful! I had issues with seams last year in the old version.

I would email the Smartwool company and explain what happened. They will probably send you a new pair or a coupon. I have written in witha complaint about a product to 3 different companies on 3 different occasions and they have always made it right.
