The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)
Morning all, 3 with strides this morning. First time I've tried strides, not sure if I did it right or not.
30 sec acceleration about every 5 min.
Beautiful sunny 70 degree day. I'm planning a long run after we take Ben for his morning walk.
on my way to badass
Morning all! Planning an easy 5. We may take in a college lacrosse game tonight. The university that DH works for has some outstanding players.
Still waiting for the perfect race picture. 5K PR-33:52 , 10K PR 1:11:16, First HM 2:42:28

Awood - congratulations! How did you do that?
Congrats Awood!
I got a top 3 finish at today's qualifier.
PAD, that's pretty much what I do. My understanding is that it's a form drill more than anything so I try to pay attention to that.
Awood, congrats! Is that the championship that you didn't run last year? Glad you're in again.
We are still at the robotics tournament. We won our first match, which moved us up to 4th. Two more qualifiers and then the elimination matches will be this afternoon.
That's the one. I'm getting that jacket this year.

Hi Pens...
PAD: that is pretty much how I do my strides. I build them into my run, usually towards the end.
Awood: Well done. Of course we will need pictures of the jacket.
Zel: Are you staying in a hotel or driving back and forth?
Today was a test. I wanted to run for two hours or 12-14 miles, whatever. My right Achilles has been bugging me so I have been taking an extra day of rest. No more of "I am a marathon runner, I must run." With a mild hangover, I made it to two hours and did 13 miles, nice and super easy on some big hills, and no Achilles pain. I felt it a bit, but it did not hurt like it did two weeks ago on my last long run. That was the first real pain I had while running, so bad that I had to stop. Today was fine so hopefully the rest helped and that is behind me. I will still stretch and limit myself to four days a week instead of five or six or sometimes seven. The PF is still lingering but it's not an issue, just an inconvenience.
See ya.
Jack- That's good news about the foot! We got a hotel last night, not too much more than the gas we would have spent driving home, plus much more convenient. I have a friend picking up my race packet today.
Awood- Go get that jacket!
Jack - Sorry about the hangover ;-)
WTG Awood!
Zel, congrats on the robotics, and good luck to tem as they move on.
Pad, I do my strides like that too.
I finished the duathlon in 1:47:39! The second 3 mole run was really hard, legs were like mush. I'll put some times and such in the RR later. Carb loading for tomorrow's half.
Z - your daughter's team is really doing well this year. Congratulations to all.
Mitch - how long were the legs of the duothelon?
Awood - top three finisher, wow! Congratulations.
Stonefence - have fun at the game tonight.
PAD - how many strides did you do?
Jack - I'm glad the AT is doing better, as well as the PF. Are you going to stick to your wife's schedule now, without additional days?
AFM: my long run wasn't a good one. I had no energy in legs or lungs and pretty much struggled the whole way, so I cut it short. Some days you just aren't feeling it.
