Barking Mad To Run

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here.

Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the caommon benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."

It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

    Barking Mad To Run

Melagia (Mel-al-jee-ah):  Pain in the limbs.

My legs are a bit sore today after doing three 5Ks over the weekend.  So today is a rest day for me.

First one was Saturday morning, Sights and Sounds 5K:   http://www.runningahead.com/groups/BF_and_Beyond/forum/bcb1370181c0422390f817a37658887e/resume#focus

Second one was Saturday evening, the Jingle Bell 5K for Arthritis:  http://www.runningahead.com/groups/BF_and_Beyond/forum/0c2db2ea2f9b44a0a578be6cdc914384/resume#focus

Third one was Sunday evening, , 5 PM start, the Wounded Warrior Wine and Dine 5K.   Report with photos to be posted after I get home from work today.

Temps were crazy for South Texas over the weekend.  29 at the start of my race on Saturday morning, then 36 for my Saturday evening 5K.  Finally, it warmed up a bit on Sunday, and I got to wear shorts again for that 5K, the temp at the start time was 48 and the sun was out.  Now we're going back down again, drizzly rain today and a high of only 44.

Anyone else feeling the effects of an active weekend?

Yes, I am feeling the effects of an active weekend! It's a travel day for me. I'm eating breakfast at the hotel and preparing for the drive home. Pens, thanks for the support and kind words on my race. RR coming later.

        Enjoy your day.

                Good morning all!

Scotty - I'll try to get to your RR's later.  Man, I have to get my schedule back under control.

Jack - You kicked butt man!  Take it easy for a bit.  Tell us all about the race when you get time.

StoneFence - That bad weather is going around.  I better get used to it Undecided

tracilynn - Well said.  I hope the calf gets better real soon.

AFM - I dropped my car off at the shop this morning.  You guys know how much I travel.  173K + miles on my car.  They're going to give me some new suspension now that the weather is snow and ice.  Then, there just going to give it a good once over to make sure that I don't end up with an issue out in the middle of nowhere during a snow storm.  You know...preventative stuff.  I'm glad I trust my mechanic.  Otherwise, I wouldn't feel comfortable asking him to do that.

I've been so darn busy since running that marathon that I haven't gotten over about 25 miles per week in a while.  Thanksgiving week, I didn't even get close to that.  It may have been a blessing in disguise though.  My feet are starting to heal up nicely.  I still have to roll my calves from time to time, or my achilles start getting upset at me.  It's weird because I won't feel it in my calves, but then I feel something int he achilles.  I'll roll the calves and feel a big knot.  Once I've rolled that out, the achilles feels fine.  I guess it's all connected.  So, that makes sense.

The wife wanted to run in the new snow last night.  So, we took the dog and ran as a family, but with it being dark and slick we stuck to the 1/2 mile track.  That's nice because I can run a lap with her at her pace, and then the dog and I can run a couple of hot laps until we catch back up to her and drop back to her pace.  We both get some quality running and some quality time together.  I really like that.

                      Good morning Scotty!

Yes, Scotty, I'm having Melagia in my limbs after by race yesterday too.  Right now it's just barely over freezing, and there's still frost on everyone's roofs.  But at least its dry!

(((((((((( JACK ))))))))))))))  Congratulations!   That was outstanding!  I'm sorry I missed you on race day, but you were in my thoughts, and I knew you'd do outstanding.  Hope you have a safe trip home.

Morning Stone!  Hope your weather improves and you can get your run in.

tracilynn-- LOL, well you'll probably do everything with a smile.

Mitch-- you can go ahead and take the day off today.  Its okay, I already talked with your boss.  He said he'll give you a paid holiday.

Awood-- that sounds like a great family run!

Bin-- you might as well try.  YOu have plenty of time to get there.

First off I gotta say, YOU ALL ARE THE ABSOLUTE GREATEST!  You are all so supportive, and thoughtful!  No wonder everyone loves penguins.  Joking

My race didn't go quite as I'd wished.  My knees were stiff and sore right from the beginning.  I just kept thinking that the stiffness would go out and it never did.  At about 12 miles, they had our times posted as we crossed the mat, and mine was 2:05 then (worse then my last several half marathons.)  About that point I realized I'd really blew it.  I tried to pick up the pace then, as I went, but still my knees were giving me trouble.  I was actually enjoying the race if it weren't for that.  The weather was really nice and cool.  I finished at about 4:32ish.  I was seriously limping by the time I was finished.  My DH was calling me Mrs. Gimp.  Went to breakfast, came home, took a pain pill, and took a well needed nap.  I was sad I'd missed finding Jack on race day/

So....fuck fuck fuck. Excuse the language but I just can't catch a break....after a completely pain free and awesome half marathon yesterday. I can't walk today. I seem to have injured my foot and not realized?!?? Uuggghhhh I can NOT put pressure on my left heel. Feels like I pulled a muscle along the outside of my foot. It HURTS. I'm limping around work and afraid my boss is going to send me home cuz we are not allowed to work if we are injured in a way to keep us from chasing after kids. I'm so upset. It hurts on the outside bottom of my foot when I put pressure through my heel. Not the right place for PF....maybe pulled muscle or peroneal tendon???? Shit.... Sad

10.1 cold, slushy, icy miles yesterday. I took it very slow. Once I relaxed after about 3 miles, I started enjoying it. I originally wanted to do 5, but I was just having too much fun.

Hey, guys.  We have been in Chicago until late today.  We ran in the snow and we had a great time. While here, Trixie fell ill and she was hospitalized.  They suspect some sort of liver infection or disease.  We get to see her late tonight at the vet.

Hope everyone is having a great day.
