Barking Mad To Run
The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here.
Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the caommon benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges."
It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

It's a tie. Good morning Scott.

What's up guys? Great race between Jerry and Scotty this morning. Photo finish. Haha!!!
Busy weekend. I'm behind on Christmas decorating, and shopping, but I'm coming on strong. Still have to get a good run in tonight. Have a great one!

lol, Jerry. I think you were slightly ahead of me!
Fantod a state of irritability or tension; an emotional fit
For keeping in mind all our fellow Penguins and Dailies runners who are dealing with 'issues'....clots, knees, shins, foot, whatever. A benched runner is not a happy runner and irritability is understandable. Also for my love, Gail, who has been sick for the last 3 days and certainly is in a state of irritability! For those of you who may have not been with your partner for that long, take it from an old married guy (29 years married this February), give her some sympathy and understanding, but DON'T try and" fix it" - like we guys tend to do - just keep your mouth shut and simply be there for her.
As for me, I am feeling REALLY good both in health and my running (sorry Fantod runners!). Last night did HILLS HILLS HILLS and had an EXCELLENT run/walk. Attacked all the hills and got up them all in good order, felt strong the whole way. Took it easier on the downhills because downhills are harder on my back (stupid spinal arthritis! ) but even those went great. Well, it's not like I'm running LRB pace, lol, my pace is MUCH easier (slower) than that. Even so, I am doing great for me. Don't know why but for the last month or so have felt really good on all my run/walks and races, even with my 11-minute mile paces. Although lately I have actually been getting under 11-minute mile pace. Last night I did 4.2 miles of hills in 44:53, averaging about 10:52 per mile, nice. Maybe it's helped that I've been eating lots less junk food and am now down to 194 lbs (was at 206 at the beginning of summer), first time I've been under 200 in a long while. Not much of a weight loss, but every little bit helps, right? Whatever the reason, my running is going well, and I sure hope it stays that way, knock on wood!
Today is a rest day for me and then I do my 73rd race of the year tomorrow, The Jingle Bell 5K for St. Jude's Children's Ranch - https://stjudesranch.org/
Glad you are feeling great, Scott. Good luck on #73.
Good morning, Jerry! Enjoy your track work today! Indoor track, I assume? Or is your weather behaving?
Hope you have a great run tonite, Awood! I guess I'm lucky in the holiday shopping area, I only have to shop for Gail and get something for my daughter and her family in Pennsylvania and then I'm done. Easy peasy. As for decorating, done with that too...already put our stockings out (took about 2 minutes) and already put our tree up. Tree took less than a minute cuz it came already 'decorated'....we just opened the box and took the tree out and put it on the table.....
...and it even plays Jingle Bells and turns in a little circle when you wind it up....

Attempt to run yesterday was a complete fail. I ended out with 0.11 miles. The knee was hurting. I came home and did lots of fun leg strengthening and balance exercises that I got during knee rehab in 2012.

Hi Pens.
Guess what? Another rest day for me! I will likely do a little jog tomorrow.
I will check in later.
Oops, missed this thread in my haste to post this morning. I think we have school today- hopefully I remember how!
Scotty- That's great that you are feeling so strong in your running! Maybe I will tell that to my vet, who thinks that Zoe should give up on being active from here on out. Her diagnosis actually sounds similar to yours- a disc out of alignment that's pinching a nerve in her spine. We're working on getting a second opinion.
Jerry- Good luck at the track!
Awood- We need to see photos of the lights when you're done! I hope that we get lights up this year, we're behind with all of the frigid weather we've had.
Dan- Take care of that knee! Sorry that you are hurting.
Jack- Good luck on your job tomorrow!
Mitch- We are all pulling for you! Good luck this weekend!

Do you do clamshells?Jack -- have a good rest day!!Zelanie -- did you remember how to have school?
When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run. The only thing that matters is how we have loved.
Fear is a Liar
Good morning penguins!
Ran 8.2 last night checking out a different neighborhood and their Christmas lights.
Does anyone feel that running in these frigid temps takes a little more out of you? Also depending on the temp, my hands don't warm up until 3-4 miles into the run. Body takes 1-2 miles to warm up. Toes - they never warm up :-(
I'm so vegetarian I don't even eat animal crackers!
Morning. I am fantod alright. Will run 6 and do core later. I am having issues feeding Trixie and giving her meds and she showed her displeasure by peeing herself and the bed at 1am. I left her there without food but will come by after court to feed her. Wish me luck!!!
