Trails are tough. Tough trails are crazy hard. Nice job getting under 2.
Thanks you guys. It was mos def a learning experience. I'm a better runner for it.

Barking Mad To Run
Heck, Luke, I can't do 5 miles in under 2 hours and you did twice that!
Don't be so hard on yourself, personally I think you did great, especially on what you described as a very tough course. As said, definitely a learning experience for you and in the future if you do this one again, I bet you will only improve.

Thank you Mr. Scotty. I certainly will improve in the future. I'm in the process of growing up...as a runner.
Sounds like you ran a good race on a tough course. And will be stronger for the "hillwork" today! There's a reason that athlinks separates the trail races from the road ones.

Thanks Zel, excellent perspective.
Nice job Luke, yet to run a trail myself.
Two things I have learned from trail races.
1. Every trail race course is hard but some are, "oh my god I'll never do this stupid shit again" hard.
2. Those guys at the front of the trail race don't look like traditional runners but they are some seriously in shape bad asses.
Short term goal: 2:59:59 (November, 2013)
Mid term goal: Any race over 80% of top AG standard
Long term goal: To say I've been a runner half my life. (I started running at age 45).
Sounds like it was a very tough course. You did a great job, don't be too hard on yourself!

RUN/BIKE/SWIM REPEAT
Luke I know you are disappointed but you shouldn't be. You are just coming back from a well
managed return to running.
Hilly trail runs can be some of the toughest races you will ever run. We do one locally that is 11
miles and has 1,800 foot of gain/loss on rough rough trials. It takes every bit of gumption and
energy I have not to stop during that race.
You did great. And look at the bright side, you aren't injured and you are back racing!!
Congrats!

Thanks Beth. I don't feel disappointment looking back the day after. I simply went out too fast, trying to run with my friend that runs ultras. I'm just not there yet....these things take time.
Thanks LTH, Kristin and Irishguy for your feedback.

Great job and great effort! I'm still scared of venturing out to the trails. Mad props for taking them on in this race, and super hilly ones at that!

Trail running is so different from road running... You really cannot compare your times. Having never done any trail running myself, I can't imagine doing a race on a trail, I would so totally suck! I think that you were very brave to try this, Luke, it looked hard! I can't wait to read your HM race report!
PRs: Boston Marathon, 3:27, April 15th 2013
Cornwall Half-Marathon, 1:35, April 27th 2013
Trail races can be tough. Try this race again next year or another year, and you'll have a point of comparison.
Nurse on the run
That's awesome that your doing well and running again. Don't beat yourself up. Like all that mentioned, you really can't compare the two. Great job finishing. Good luck with the half.
