Barking Mad To Run
The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the caommon benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!)

Moilsome: laborious....
...which I found was the case this morning when I got up and tried to get out of bed. First, my sheets and blankets were all tangled around me, and second, my darn cats were lying on top of me and did not want to move at all. Took me a few minutes to 'escape' from the bedclothes and the cats. And I have moilsome workday today too, as one of my co-workers is out today.
Saturday, did my 4th race of the year: http://www.runningahead.com/groups/BF_and_Beyond/forum/6ebabbe7916b4c13ab9a0d08dcd3c9fe/resume#focus
Sunday, I was very lazy, just reading and watching football. Glad the Denver Broncos won cuz I can't stand the New England Patriots and now they don't get to play next week at home, so hopefully the Broncs will kick Patriot butt. However, I'm hoping the Seahawks win the whole shebang.
Today is some hill work after work. We are predicted to have a beautiful week here, weather-wise, in San Antonio, highs in the low 70s all week long, nice! Shoot, it's only 6:43 here in Texas right now and the temp is already 62.

Hey everyone!
Been sick the last couple of days, spent all day yesterday on the couch watching football, it was the laziest day I've had in a long time. Would have been more enjoyable if I hadn't been sick. This has to stop, it's destroying my marathon training. Hopefully it clears up quickly this week so I can try to salvage the last 8 weeks of training.
Hope everyone has a great day!
-Dave

As part of the 2024 London Marathon, I am fundraising for VICTA, a charity that helps blind and visually impaired children. My mentor while in law school, Jim K (a blind attorney), has been a huge inspiration and an example of courage and perseverance. Please consider donating.

Feel better Dave. Enjoy the Marathon SRD, D. Don't work too hard, Scott.

I overslept my alarm. By TWO HOURS!!! I may be getting sick because I was pretty tired all weekend (I fell asleep watching 2 different playoff football games with my boyfriend this weekend and even went to bed before him for once....if we don't go together it is always him that goes first). I missed my spin class and was 20 minutes late for work!!!! I did manage to throw some gym clothes in a bag on my scramble out the door so I can go do my own thing on the bike after work.

2XU HM - 29 Mar
Good morning! Today I am taking our dog Zoe up to Portland for her MRI and probably surgery. Poor girl. I am hoping this will give her the chance to live without pain.
Then I have some shopping to do in Portland and hopefully a run when I get back. That's what I'm calling the 8 x 100s that are in my Pfitz plan. I actually do have them programmed into my watch as intervals, but that's just because I can't count to 8 and run at the same time.
Scotty, D2, Damaris, kristin- Hiya!
Jerry- How was the movie?
Bin- Honestly, it's still sitting on my desk. I have leafed through it, but it looks like the kind of book that's going to take closer study.
From the Internet.
Hi pens! SRD, catching up from yesterday's thread too..
Ginny - legs do seem to be behaving! I've been icing preemptively and spent all afternoon in compression sleeves. If tomorrow's run is fine I'll be thrilled and try another 6 this week.
Bin - we do have similar taste in shoes, I'm almost positive it was a comment/suggestion you made that got me to try the DSTs
Kristin - oof, I hate mornings like that - I think I oversleep like that once every 2-3 weeks and throw off my whole day. Hope you aren't getting sick.
Coffee time then work time! I have a graduation deadline now (December, boo) and want to get as much done as possible the next 8-9 months before writing crunch time starts.
Fear is a Liar
Good morning Penguins!
This is my fourth non-running day in a row. Went to the doc in the box yesterday afternoon after I was reading about flu symptoms and how tamiflu helps if it is taken within 24-48 hours of symptoms. He did a flu test and it came up negative. I basically have some kind of viral bronchitis. He gave me an antibiotic to fend off a bacterial infection - he said they have been seeing a lot of patients with my symptoms and they wind up getting a bacterial lung infection in about 4 days, some they are sending right to the hospital.
So this bring up a point - I usually don't go to the doctor, I just ride things out. When I read that after the week or so of being down with the flu you can have 2-3 weeks of fatigue. I said to myself "I can't have any of that, I need to get my miles in!" So hopefully thinking like a runner prevented me from getting worse things like a hospital visit and possibly pneumonia.
In other breaking news, our clothes washer broke down. I diagnosed the problem as being a hidden microswitch that stops the machine when the lid is open - so even when it is closed it doesn't work. Just haven't been feeling good enough to fix it.
Zelanie - when I do my intervals I actually carry my iPhone and use it as a stopwatch and then write down my lap times in the notepad app during my recovery.
I'm so vegetarian I don't even eat animal crackers!
Zel, hope Zoe does okay.
Dave, RD on couch and football is good, being sick is not, so get well.
Scotty, 4 races already, congrats to a great start. That was funny about being all tangld up with the cats and covers.
Hey everyone else.
Today will start the C25K that I'm helping with at work, there are about 25 people signed up. This will be a good test for them and to test their dedication......it's raining all day and 55 degrees. With 2 different time slots, I should end up with 5 miles or so.

Hiya, Penguins!! I'm glad to see the sun today, hopefully I can get outside for a short walk this afternoon! My knee cooperated pretty well with Saturday's coaching session, so that's really encouraging. More squats and clamshells this week, blech. Too bad the things that seem to help aren't fun. Why can't I rehab my knee by blowing bubbles or jumping on a trampoline, or something like that?Scotty -- DH put up shelves in our bathroom and cleaned it top to bottom, so then he felt justified in spending the rest of Saturday and Sunday watching football! But since I wasn't the one cleaning, I couldn't argue ...D2 -- hope you feel better!!Docket -- have a good SRD!!Jerry -- enjoy the ice-free run!!kristin -- wow, that's some serious oversleeping!! Hope it caught you up!!Bin -- have a good RD!!Zelanie -- sending good wishes for Zoe!!Lauren -- good luck getting stuff done!! It seems there's always just a little more to do ...Gustav -- hope you feel better!!hog -- wow, that's a lot of people for your work C25k!! Hope they all show!!
When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run. The only thing that matters is how we have loved.
Morning all. 3 miles this morning. Wanted to do 4 but I was really stiff from yesterdays long run.
faster than a glacier
Hola Penguins! Hog that's awesome getting so many people starting the C25K!
AFM... Just a quick check in, week 7 of 12 of my HM training down! Had to skip a day due to last minute stuff that came up, but no big deal. That's the first day I missed and I doubt 4 miles plus or minus over 12 weeks will make any difference. It certainly can't make me any slower
Did my longest run ever of 9 miles yesterday, so go me. Weather was perfect and the running/biking trail I was on was PACKED! Good to see so many people out, especially the girls from the college across the street. (Just sayin) Every Sunday long run for the next few weeks will be a new PR, so that's kinda cool.
Good luck everyone with your training today!
