Barking Mad To Run

The "Penguin" daily threads were originally conceived to emphasize that all members of the community have a place on the boards. Encouragement, motivation, a little love nip (you will love one, give it a try!) or even a little kick in the pants when needed -- it can happen here. Basically, we celebrate just getting out there and moving our tails! What is "slow"? "Slow" is a perception but one of the common benchmarks is the 10:00/mi pace; but there's no firm line. In fact, there are many of us that have slipped past this, and just hope that no one notices and revokes their "igloo privileges." It can be confusing for the forum newbies, but we're not one of the teams in any of the fine games. It's a totally open group, so stop lurking, post an introduction of yourself dive in and join the fun! No application necessary! There might even be a lovely picture for Scotty (we love pics!).

But who needs a frying pan.....

We hit 101 degrees again yesterday in San Antonio. Mother Nature seems to be setting a trend for us here for August.  Not fun.  At least she is giving us some cool mornings before the heat sets in, so I guess we are a bit luckier than some of the hot-plate places in the US.  The cool mornings make for a nice drive-time to work because I like my classic rock blaring, my windows rolled down and the wind blowing through what little hair I have left.       Rest day for me today and a short day at work.   Getting off at 1 PM for an appointment (routine bloodwork) and then pick up my packet for my 5K tomorrow and then get my hair cut.

        Morning Scotty & penguins!

Yea, the heat is back just in time for the weekend. It was 70 yesterday morning, 79 today on it's way to 100.

Oh well got my 4.5 done.

Morning Penguins! Thanks for starting us off Scotty. I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around your weather.

                  Singer who runs a smidge

Morning, Penguins!!  We've been having lovely mornings here also, temps down in the 60's at night.  Perfect for sleeping with the windows open, until one of the neighborhood dogs starts barking and Dusty starts woofing and wakes us up.  It's worth it, though!  Chorus last night was lovely, and today will be a WAW (walk at work) and possibly another at home with the boys.

Scotty -- have fun with your short day!!

PAD -- glad you got your miles done already!!

                    Stone -- good morning!!

hog -- have a good easy run!!

Docket -- have a good rest day!!

Jerryb -- have a good LR!!

When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run.  The only thing that matters is how we have loved.

                    Fast Penquin

                      Morning all,

Well week 1 of my return to running is in the books.  Todays "run" was supposed to be a 60 brisk walk.  Well stupid me couldn't just walk.  I put in 3 5 minute slow jogs.  Might have felt a little twinge at the very end of the second run and the third but nothing major.  So 4.35 miles today and 8.39 for the week, sign me up for the miles game!

Tick: I'm sure millions of viewers out there are just wondering what it's like to wear the tights of justice. Well, it's tingly and it's uncomfortable, but it gets the job done and, oh, the job of it.

                      Caretaker/Overlook Hotel

Gonna put in a few on the hamster wheel.  Been bad lately.  I last ran on Monday as I did a crierium bike ride/race Tuesday (rode with a dude who finished at 38mph on the flats......ON THE FLATS!!!   FAAAaaast!!)

Then Wednesday mowed the lawn & lifted weights.

Then yesterday couldn't pass up the chance to ride on a $9,500 bike. (Specialized Tarmac S-works Di2 disc-brake version)  Fortunately, I can't afford that puppy so it was just some time in a dream saddle.

Need to lube the hamster wheel belt tonight before running.  Mine's been getting hot.  (shrug)

                          Barking Mad To Run

Here is a headline from today's San Antonio newspaper:

                            Coyotes seen prowling S.A. suburbs

Great....as if I don't have enough animal adventures already.       Hope the coyotes like dog biscuits!

Well, PAD, at least you are in NORTH Texas where it can be a few degrees cooler.

StoneFence, don't wrap your head around our weather, good way to get burned!

Hope the run goes well for you, Mitch, and gets you started on the come-back trail!

Kick butt in court, Damaris!  Too bad you attorneys can't wear what the judges wear...would be nice and cool for you with nothing on underneath the robe!

Jerry, good luck with your LR!  I'd wake DW up BEFORE the temps go up, and get your butts out there!

Must be nice to be able to sleep with the windows open, HsM!  If we tried that here, we'd have coming into our windows mosquitoes...flies...burglars...

                            Welcome back, Brady!

"I did a crierium bike ride/race..."    Dang, redrum..I can't even pronounce that, lol. umm  'cry-er-ee-um'  ...is that a bike race that makes you cry a lot?

                              Hi Pens...

It is still hot here, as well, into the the 90's.

Redum: I have ridden an $8,000 bike before and I know nothing about bikes. That being said, when you get on one of those and pedal it just a few feet you instantly know you are not on just a bike. I imagine it is similar comparing a Ferrari to a Yugo.

My extra days of rest continue. I'm going out for an easy jog tonight, maybe three of four miles and tomorrow I am trying for a bit longer. Maybe six or seven? Injuries have sucked the life out of me but the extra rest is doing me some good.

                              Have a nice weekend.
